This book was good but was an overview of previously read material. Some new facts but as much as has been written about the subject about the only thing you get is a little more complete cronology of events. I would still read in any case.

This was the second time i tried reading this book and i liked it better this time round and managed to finish it. The main character Ding wasn't so easy to like, but i think there was a nice correlation between the rise in romantic intensity to the approach of the Nanjin massacre. The book did end a bit too abruptly, but at least the character was more likeable by that point than before.

There were parts I really enjoyed, and some definite twists. Did not expect the ending! But I have read/listened to a lot of Pip's work and I don't think this was here best. I love Chasing the Bard!
