Interesting read, but also a little difficult to get through.

An arrogant account of an overly dramatic life. Every emotional experience is butchered and served to the reader deep fried and refried. It would be a horribly boring account if it were not for his wit that seems to almost make fun of himself half of the time.
Adored Sprite! Mostly because he was a rescue. Made me sad at the same time, made me think of my puppy and how someday she MIGHT die. I'm a sap. One part I didn't quite get...the author kept talking about Sprite and how he was such a good dog and so different and amazing but he never really said anything to back that up. I guess he didn't give me enough description to make me feel like he was more than just the family's second dog to him. Also, it seemed he was plugging his radio show at times and trying to impress the reader with whom he's rubbed elbows with...that was excessive and got to be annoying.

One of my all time favorites

If you are given to introspecting as to how your life takes the course it does, you'll find it enlightening. I thoroughly enjoyed it and now look at human behaviour, particularly my own, with much more insight.

One of the best books written in the last twenty years.

This little book offers a brief (as the title implies) summary on both the vampire myth in both the movie, literary, and tv genre. It's up to date with its references to both the Twilight, Underworld and True Blood phenomena. It is quickly read, and it gives a brief access as to why humanity has been fascinated by this creature since, almost since the dawn of time. However, brief as this book may be, it fails in providing new angles and add new material as to why the vampire continues to fascinate and repel us, as it has done for millennia. On a side note, I find it embarrassing that the author fails to do proper fact checking – such as giving C.Th. Dreyer a Swedish nationality, when he, in fact, was one of the greatest Danish directors of all time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_The...). I may sound nitpicking, but when this book claims to be “a history” expect, at the very least, that the stated and verifiable facts are indeed correct.

Antrim's novel is the work of a brilliant stylist, bringing to mind Vladimir Nabokov's best fiction. I look forward to reading more of Antrim's books.
Samuel recieved this book for his 1st birthday along with an apple tree to plant. We love this book and read it many times a week.
