5+ stars – Contemporary Romance Boy oh boy did I love this book!! “Smooth Talking Stranger” is a sinfully decadent treat for contemporary romance lovers! It’s like Godiva for chocolate lovers and a good French roast for coffee lovers...just yum! I loved “Sugar Daddy”, despite that it leaned more towards chick-lit and really liked “Blue-Eyed Devil”, even though it was heavy on the drama and lacked Hardy’s viewpoint, but “Smooth Talking Stranger” is straight up romance and nice and steamy, just the way I like it! Bachelor playboy Jack Travis is positively delicious...pure male and completely irresistible. Miss Independent Ella Varner tries mighty hard to resist his charms, but she’s delusional if she thinks for one minute that would ever work against a sexy, sweet, confident, enticing man’s man like Jack. I kept screaming...girl, if you don’t hurry and snatch him up you are crazy! There are so many funny, tender, sexy moments in this book that it’s impossible to do it justice. The banter between Ella and Jack is a real delight. And good lord, the scenes with Jack caring for and playing with the baby nearly made me faint! He’s just absolutely swoon-worthy! There’s really no other way to describe him. Ella hales from Austin (where I happen to live) and Kleypas’s description of the hippie Austin boyfriend Dane, with his hemp shirt and Birkenstocks, cracked me up because it’s just so true. Being an independent-minded, liberal vegetarian living in the conservative Lone Star State myself, I identified a lot with Ella’s character, but knew she stood no chance against a force like Jack Travis! He could pursue me any day girlfriends! Even if you didn’t care for “Sugar Daddy” and/or “Blue-Eyed Devil” or avoided them because of the mixed reviews, don’t miss out on the sheer pleasure that is “Smooth Talking Stranger”, and I think it would be okay as a stand-alone novel. It’s utterly delightful and a contemporary romance lover’s dream...big 5 stars!

Whoa! I knew that (I can't tell you what) had something to do with the reason Yorick and Ampersand survived the mysterious plague that killed every other dude on the planet. Bbut I wasn't ready for it. Nor was I ready for the ninja.

If I could give it more stars, I would. This is one of the Great American novels. Historically accurate. Compelling characters and vivid descriptions of one of the most wrenching times in American history. If you have dismissed it as "chick lit" or some bodice-ripping romance, please - pick it up and give it a go. Discover Scarlett O'Hare as not a ditzy Southern belle, but as a modern American feminist - intent on controlling her own destiny in a world designed to keep her from doing just that.

Like any self-respecting Outlander fan, I was waiting for this next installment to come out, and while waiting, read the whole series again. So I was thrilled when I finally got my copy at the library. Being a 7 day loan, and not renewable, I couldn't quite finish the thing before it had to go back. And here's one of the reasons I only gave it 3 stars: I kept forgetting to put it back on hold, and when I did finally remember, I couldn't remember where I had left off and practically anything that occured in the first half. It's slow in the beginning, looooooong in the middle, has far too many characters that I simply did not care in the least about much less remember anything about, and I really hated something that happened in the very end. Without spoiling it for readers, it concerns Lord John Grey and Claire. I still love the Outlander series, but this was sorely disappointing and very forgettable. And of course, I'll still be thrilled when the next book comes out. But I won't re-read this one while I'm waiting!
A truely beautiful and important children's morality tale. Very special tale that i will be reading to my children.

Most of the boarders at the Alveara school had fathers, brothers, uncles serving in the army or the Royal Air Force. My faviorite cousin, Bryan, was in the army fighting Germans somewhere in France. Bryan was like a brother to me, since i didnt have a brother, or a sister either. Now he was in danger, and here we were with Miss Muller, a half German, the dorm mistress in our dormitory. "We;re contaminated," Ada Sinclair said. Secretly I didnt think we were contaminated. I still liked Miss Muller. But I was Carful not to defend her too much. Itwas awful to be called Jessie the German lover, and thats what Mean Jean ROss had called me at break last Friday. I copied this at the back of the book

I loved THE VIRGIN SUICIDES although now I can barely recall it. This one had so much hoopla that, trying to stay in with the "in" nerd crowd, I read it. I thought the premise was brilliant but I personally found it to move quite slowly at various parts of the story. It started off fast and I thought I'd never put it down, but as it moved into the male person I was less and less engaged... But his ability to weave a character who is both male and female in the same story is incredible and that alone may make it worth reading. I'd give this 3.5 or 3.75 stars, but goodreads isn't quite that detailed on its rating system yet!

AMAZING!! I grew up with this book, and so did my mom and her siblings...an absolute classic. My grandfather used to quote it all the time. Adorable and a necessity.

These books have gotten better as they've moved along. You find the goodside to Artemis as he bonds with his fairy friends. Here's to hoping he gives up his works of crime.
