The first half was basically pointless. She misses Ed, and Jacob is a werewolf. Got it. Skip to the middle! The second half was really good. Glad there wasn't as much about how beautiful Edward's body is as was in the first book. These books are strange in that there is alot that irritates me, but I really want to find out how everything turns out. In my opinion, it took Rowling till her 4th book in the Potter series to hit her stride and the last 2 are in my all time favorites list; I'm hoping the same for this series.
Back in the time when men were capable of "dastardly" deeds and spoke of them when they were comfortably seated in all male company, enjoying a glass of port and a cigar.

This is probably one of my favorites. I didn't understand it as a kid, I just enjoyed the illustrations. Now, I love it.

I taught this for the first time this year and found that the discussions on repentance were great - and Hawthorne has a clear agenda which just makes the book even more fun ... the ideas he presents are truly timeless.

Interesting theories. The idea that the United States' grand strategy is to destabilize all other powers as its first line of defense makes sense, but it's painful that we are still that kind of world. I definitely think we are far too casual about Mexico and that we should make it our best friend. People think of it as third-world, but it is on its way up. With a rising population, natural resources, and (I hope) political stabilization, there's every reason to believe it could become a serious world power in the future. I'm learning Spanish for a reason. Still can't get my mind around the idea that Poland will be a serious contender due to its geography, but I know many brilliant minds are native to that place.

Continuing the tradition of Archangel, the world story continues to develop. Even though the books span centuries typically, they are hard to set down as you see the world change.

This is a remarkable book. Painfully honest, and meticulously written, this series of essays skewers many of the post-modern truths that we are subjected to regularly. Although the book can seem redundant or repetitive(it is a collection of his previously published articles) points he makes are remarkable. A must read for anyone curious about racial politics in America.
this was recommended by the ethicist of the new york times when i went to one of his lectures... good. very involved and more like a text book than anything, but supremely interesting.
