** spoiler alert ** Hm. I must admit, this one had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I will forever be Team Ren. I must start off by saying that and that I KNEW that Durga had something to do with Ren's amnesia. During the book, I could feel Kelsey's hurt, her fears, her reluctance. The story was wonderful. The dragons were pretty amazing. The kraken attack! Kelsey's inner monologue regarding the kraken and how she would explain her death to her fellow deads. That made me laugh out loud! There were some things that I could have lived without, however. * Length of the book! Honestly, this book was a little TOO long. There was a lot of the diving instruction going on. Way too much. I could've lived without an entire chapter without it. I absolutely understand the importance of explaining diving, but did we HAVE to have all of those lessons?? No. No, we didn't. They could have been edited. For me, there were at least 200 pages too many. * Way too much emotional tug-of-war! Kelsey. Just.Make.A.Decision! After all this inner conflict of who was better, both of them being a great "pillow", Kishan changing his entire demeanor...I don't know. I was so confused. WHERE WAS THE KISHAN WE MET IN THE FIRST TWO BOOKS?! Now he's quiet, patient, and dull! Also, when she would choose Ren, I would get lost and have to reread the paragraphs a couple of times to figure out WHAT she was thinking! Is it Kishan today, is it Ren, is it herself?! I don't know. I think I would have been less distracted by all of this had Kelsey just chosen to choose later. Don't get me wrong. The romance in this book is AMAZING and one of the reasons why I really liked it. But, all this "kind of" choosing was driving me bananas!! Plus, I fear that it'll keep going and going. There are FIVE books to this series. Are going to be subjected to Kelsey's back and forth for the.entire.series.?! Please. No. I love this series too much for it to become a cliche. * Creepy, CREEPY LOKESH!! Seriously?! A baby?! SERIOUSLY?!??!? EEEWWWW!!! I have other bones to pick, but I don't have time (or the memory) to get into all of them. However, I must say that Houck's storytelling is wonderful and I really did find myself envisioning all of these fantastic places. The ice dragon was my favorite, though the red dragon was hilarious. As far Kelsey being taken...she thinks she needs to sacrifice herself. I have no clue what's going to happen, but it's too bad that I have to wait another year for the next one. I'm addicted to this series, but I don't know. I didn't really find this book as amazing as the second. It obviously had its amazing moments and I really did like 90% of the book. I was anticipating this book so much and now it's on to the next one!

Dragon Ball - Tập 31 Thư viện Sách hướng dẫn

I couldn’t stop thinking about this book after I was done reading it. It was haunting, and heart-breaking….and I loved it. Seventeen-year old Nikki Bennett, Becks, has been gone for six months in the Everneath, a place where Everlivings, immortal beings, feed off the emotions of humans to survive. Nikki has come home to say a proper good-bye to her family and friends, most of all a proper good-bye to Jack, the love of her life. Nikki has six months on the surface before the Everneath claims her for good to serve either as a “battery” in the dark tunnels or to become an Everliving with Cole, the Everliving who took her. At first you know that Nikki made the choice willingly to go with Cole, but you don’t know why. You get glimpses of the past events that led up to her decision, throughout the story. You know that her mother died in a car accident and that she’s devastated about that. However, Nikki also has other things going for her, like Jack. Jack was her best-friend that she secretly loved for many years, until they figured out their feelings were mutual. In flash-backs you see that Nikki has some doubts of her worth to Jack, and some problems with her family. Cole takes advantage of that, encouraging her doubt. Everlivings entice people in pain, because The Feed takes all those emotions away. Unfortunately, The Feed also takes every emotion you have away, leaving you an empty shell. Now Nikki would do anything to change the bargain she made with Cole. This story made my heart ache for Nikki and Jack. It felt like I was watching someone tying up loose ends before a death sentence! It pained me to see Nikki realizing how close her best-friend, Jules and Jack became after she disappeared, and feeling the jealousy she felt because of it. Jack, though, is such an unwavering, persistent guy, never giving up on Nikki while she was gone or now, when she’s back. Their romance is so very sweet, although mainly told from flash-backs. Loved this scene: “You weren’t in the lunchroom today.” Jack said, coming up behind me at my locker. “Jules says you’re never in the cafeteria on Wednesdays.” I tried to calm the flush to my cheeks before I turned around to face him. My crush on Jack was getting ridiculous….Just because he noticed, for the first time, that I wasn’t at lunch, it didn’t mean anything…. ”She said you avoid the cafeteria on Wednesdays. And she said you like me.” I heard myself gasp, and I came to a stop. “So is it true?” Jack said….I turned away, embarrassed, but Jack stepped sideways so he was in front of me, and there was nowhere else I could look. “Yes. I hate hot-dog Wednesdays, so I don’t go to the lunchroom. It’s true.” Jack: “That’s not what I meant, Becks.” Nikki: “I know.” Jack: “Tell me. Is it true? Do you like me?” Nikki: “You know I like you. You’re one of my best friends.” Jack: “Friends.” Nikki: “Of course.” Jack: “Good friends?” Nikki: I nodded. Jack: “More than friends?” Nikki: I didn’t say anything. I didn’t move. Jack reached toward my hand and tugged gently on my fingers. He leaned forward and said, “Tell me, friend. Is there more for us?” Nikki: I looked down at my feet. “There’s everything for us.” Oh, how you want them to find a way around this mess! I liked that this story incorporates an original take on Greek Mythology, the story of Hades and the Underworld twisted up a bit. I hope that’s developed more in the next one. And the ending!!! Oh, the ending!! I can’t wait to see what happens next. A definite recommend! Thank you to Harper Collins and Netgalley for allowing me to read this!

Oh boy was this book a nice surprise, especially after so many lukewarm reviews! I really put off reading it for a long time, because I was afraid I'd be disappointed. Spin definitely earned its Hugo because Robert Charles Wilson pulled off the near impossible with his great ending. Stephen King has said something to the effect that once you show the monster in the closet, it's all over; your readers aren't going to be scared any more. This is so true - so many endings just don't live up to the build-up in the book, and yet somehow Wilson came up with a spectacular conclusion totally worthy of the rest of Spin. I just didn't see how he could keep this going in the next part of the story. I should have had more faith! I'm not a big fan of sequels that just are just retreads of the original story, and I really felt that Wilson had taken Tyler and Diane about as far as he could go with them. So I was not at all disappointed to find that the next part of the story is about different characters. I think readers who are looking for more of their story might be let down, but Diane does make an appearance in this book as an old woman, and it is fitting that she does so, with her personal history being more relevant to the themes that are covered here. And it is the themes that are the really interesting part of this story. Wilson created a fascinating world and what-if scenario with Spin, and Axis starts picking up threads that he had no time to deal with there. How would people react to the existence of the Hypotheticals? How would humans deal with a brand new world given to them - would they take a smart environmental approach the way they did on Mars - or would business as usual continue? How would Earth humans and Mars humans relate to each other, with 100,000 years of civilization separating them? Where did the Martians get their life extension treatment in the first place? These are just a few of the fascinating ideas explored in this novel. Now I just can't wait for the next one!
