This book is an overview of racial policy from slavery to the mid-90s, focusing mostly on the case of Little B, a 13 year old from Atlanta who was sentenced to life in prison for allegedly killing a man, and how and why his story became a media sensation. This book did a lot of connecting the dots across media and policy.

I love Suzanne Collins; boy, can she write a great book!? The Hunger Games was an awesome trilogy and I can't wait to sink my teeth into the rest of these books.

I would say that this book is good, just not great. The idea is original enough, but the book is kind of boring. I really like the main character and really found her to be a strong female protagonist and definitely hope to read more about her and how she changes and grows in the next books. Alex was also a very interesting character. But the story just kind of slogged along and I found myself putting the book down every so often just because I couldn't propel myself to keep going. The end was of course fast-paced and if the rest of the novel had played out that way, I am sure I would have rated it higher. I do hope to read more because I think this book has set up the series well enough and leaves me wanting to know how things turn out.

This is a fictionalized account of Richard Morgan who was sent to Australia with the first convict ship in 1787, and all the horrors of those ships. Morgan was the ancestor of Colleen McCullough's husband, as well as singer Helen Reddy and several other prominent people. McCullough is a much-published author, but I felt her sentence structure and punctuation difficult and had to read several passages a second time to figure out what she was saying. I don't know if this is a different Australian style or just poor editing. But the book is definitely worth reading.

This is my four year old's favorite book. He's begged me to renew it from the library three times. I finally privately asked the librarian to tell him that we need to return it. I just wanted to let you know what I've been reading every single night this month. I'm starting to hate Walter.

The subtitle and marketing hype are a little misleading...the book is a lot more looseley structured around the back-sourcing of various meals than I expected. Still it's a fascinating read. Pollan offers the best-articulated rationalization for being a meat-eater yet, and his analysis of the HFCS component of our food economy still has me fired up.

One of my favorite books by King along w/ The Stand & The Dark Tower series. There of course is death & graphic stuff but the story along w/ the characters are engaging. The plot w/in the plot is crazy.
