It is like candy. I have been reading so many heavy, serious books that I needed something light and entertaining, so this did the trick!

Good refresher on one of the biggest scandals in US history. May have never come to light without the Liberty Bonds.

This is the second Hiassen book that I've read. His wry, sarcastic narratives, descriptions, and endearingly disturbing and quirky characters remind me a little bit of Christopher Moore's Lamb and John Grisham's A Time to Kill. I found Skinny Dip a lot funnier. Anyone else have some suggestions for humorous fiction?

Great Adventure, like reading an Indiana Jones Movie. Love It1
Another laugh out loud Stephanie Plum book. The section with Lula jammed in the car window, and the part with Stephanie dressed as a hot dog had me crying with laughter! Although there weren't a lot of other really hilarious parts, overall the story had enough humor to be enjoyable (as usual). Lula's "Flaming Asshole" sauce has to go down as a Plum classic! I quite liked Larry, the new oddball character, and I always enjoy it when Steph works at RangeMan. The story lines were ok - it was nice that Lula was being chased by homicidal maniacs this time, rather than Stephanie. They did come to a rather abrupt ending, but most Plum books do ... As usual, I devoured this book in one sitting, after waiting so long for this new installment ... now I guess it's back to waiting for #16!!
I can't believe we collectively remembered this book. It actually wasn't very good, if I recall. So why did I remember the author's name 13 years later?

2.5 stars Not sure where to start. This wasn't bad, it was just hard for me to get into. I think a lot of that was because her main emotional connection (Grant) was already formed, and although I could see that they loved each other, we didn't get enough from them for me to really feel a connection. But even as early as the prologue, I found that I was having to push myself forward. It really didn't pick up for me until after page 150ish. Than it slowed down again with these weird dreamy-sorta sequence (you'll know when you read it). I was intrigued by Byron and Tracker but there wasn't enough of them to carry it for me. The Boys were probably the best part. Jack and Sarai annoyed the crap out of me, and along with them comes the convoluted plot. I had no idea what was going on most of the time. What kind of game was Blood Mamma playing? What the fuck was the deal with Ahsen? It cleared up a little at the very end... but only a little. We met a lot of new people/characters, but I don't feel like there was very much development. And what was the deal with the "I did not see her." "I did not move." "I did not go." See Jane run. See spot jump. It made the writing feel forced at times.
I liked this one. I learned a little more about the Amish people and their customs. If you can learn from a book, it was worth the while.

This book was given to my 14-month-old daughter as a gift because her parents dressed her as a possum for her first birthday. Cute, huh? No really. It WAS cute. You should see the pictures. Anyway, while the illustrations leave something to be desired, the key to Possum Come A-Knockin' is the cadence with which you read it aloud. First, adopt a north Georgia mountain accent (if you do not, the text practically backs you into one), and proceed at a measured clip. A couple of deep breaths are required to get through passages that run from one page to the next, but that's part of the fun. It's quite catchy and addictive. My daughter usually wants us to read this book at least twice a night to her. Also, take my word for it that at the end of each page when the phrase "knockin' at the door" is read, you should then click your tongue or clap your hands or something twice. Our daughter now makes double sounds at the end of almost every page, which is cute. No really. It IS cute.
