This book will disturb most parents of teenagers (who don't want to believe that their children have sordid lives that they don't share). It is intriguing, and like most Piccoult novels, you can see that she has done her research.

This is a brilliantly clever book that is brilliantly written; it spawned a whole new genre of disaster tales. The most memorable part for me was description of the relationship between Marquesa de Montemayor and her daughter, so droll but most vividly felt: "Any Spanish schoolboy is required to know today more about Doña María, Marquesa de Montemayor, than Brother Juniper was to discover in years of research. Within a century of her death her letters had become one of the monuments of Spanish literature and her life and times have ever since been the object of long studies..."

You have to dive right into the Half Blood Prince. It is AMAZING. You learn more about Professor Snape and Professor Dumbuldore have in store in regards to Harry. There is not much more I can say but read the book it is soo worth it.

This is the first book in yet another Eloisa James series about duchesses, and I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I have the others I've read, in the other two series I'm working on right now. I think there was more sex than sexual tension in this book, and I think characterization might have taken a bit of a back seat to the sex, too. Once they get down to it, the lead couple shags like rabbits, and in some highly imaginative places, too. I wearied of Gina's hyper-reactions to the slightest provocation pretty quickly; maybe she'd shriek from pleasure and surprise the first time a thumb brushes an innocent nipple, but every time? It would hardly be necessary to have anyone else in the room! There's the hint of a mystery - Gina's illegitimate birth, the allegation of an illegitimate sibling, a peculiar bequest from the late birth mother - but the mystery of it all turns out to be nothing, which disappointed me. I absolutely didn't get the appeal of the Marquess Bonnington - stuffy stick Sebastien - whose character underwent an abrupt (and convenient for the plot) change at one point. I had an image of him in my mind, and he stepped miles outside it about 2/3 through the book, leaving me feeling like I'd missed something. Not saying the groundwork wasn't laid - James tried - but I didn't believe any of it. I'm not sure I care enough about Esme, Carola, or Helene to carry on in this series, frankly. Maybe after a bit of a rest. I just hope that not every one of these books ends up with a proud papa dandling an heir on his knee.

I had no idea when I read this that people could be so naughty "back then". Heh. I am thinking I wouldn't even blink at the book now and would probably grumble at the lack of plot - but when I was a teen and I read this - it was shocking and kind of funny.
