The book is an easy read, though it is full of information that makes picking out the right clothing and color easy. On her website www.sharibraendel.com she even has a fun and easy to do quiz to find the colors that will suit you best. It's nothing like I've ever seen and it is free so go play after you read the review! It is exciting to see a book on dressing well that addresses the spiritual side. So often as a Christian woman you get the feeling you aren't supposed to be concerned about how you look. Braendel addresses this issue in a way that makes sense. God isn't using His words in the Bible to say ignore the things you wear. Not at all. Dressing respectfully and honoring His creation is a good thing. It's not a book full of preaching and it's not meant to be. Good Girls Don't Have to Dress Bad is what it's about. Why wear black if it makes you look ten years older? Did you know carrying the wrong color purse can throw a few years on you as well? And just how many clothes do we really need? My closet is stuffed and after reading this book I have an idea of what I need to keep to look professional as well as when I run to Target.

An obviously well-researched and well-written biography leaves little to criticize except I have to admit, sometimes the author seemed to take a little delight in the exploits of Garland, especially in her failed romances and diva-esque escapades during her last years at MGM. A lifelong Garland fan, I was blown away by how manipulated this young talent was by the "adults" around her... can't say the rest was a big surprise. An interesting reminder of how exploiting a young and gifted artist (be it singer, dancer, actor, etc.) is often the foundation of wasted talent (just look at some of the former child stars gracing the pages of any tabloid these days). The older Garland got, the sadder she became... her early death almost seemed a blessing to her -- what a loss.

The Doll: Short Stories. by Daphne Du Maurier… Daphne Du Maurier is known as a writer who can create suspenseful atmosphere and twisted characters. This book of short stories from her youth does not disappoint on either count. Yes, a few of the stories are unpolished or overblown ( A Difference in Temperament,The Doll), but there are also some real treasures here. 'And Now to God the Father' and 'Picadilly' are brilliant studies of depressing characters. 'The Limpet' is an astonishing tale of a woman (reminiscent of Elizabeth Taylor's Angel), insinuating herself and meddling to disastrous effect with the lives of everyone in her path. Thankfully, there is sly comic relief to be found in a few of these tales as a contrast to the cynical, oppressive mood of the majority. Recommended for Du Maurier fans and those who love an unexpected twist in their short stories.

I have so many wonderful things to say about this novel that I don't know where to begin. Amor Towles is a very talented writer and he wrote an amazing novel. It beautifully captures the lives of the rich and working-class in New York City, and their pursuit of the American Dream during the last few years of the Depression. In many ways, this novel reminded me of The Great Gatsby. I highly recommend it!

One sentence summary: Penny fakes her kidnapping; Lil (who views Penny as a charity case) and Josh go on a Road Trip. It is interesting how different people perceive the same book in different ways. Most other reviewers gushed over the witty dialogue between Lil and Josh. It took me awhile to see the humor, I'm slow that way. Some re-reading helped. Unrequited love: Lil loves her BFF Josh, his scent (odor) when he hasn't showered. Pheeeeew, I could almost smell his armpits while reading. Lil and Josh's Road Trip is interspersed with excerpts from Penny's diary. The diary was a much more interesting read: how Penny views Lil and the other teenagers.

This book is really poorly written! Not only is it a hoax, the author cannot write! It reads like a middle school book report! The Lutz's story is like a terrible screenplay for a D horror movie...maybe that's why all the movies stemming from this book were so terrible!

** spoiler alert ** One of the problems with series books is that you wait forever for the next book with this huge anticipation, and then the book can never live up to that expectation. The second of the Angel Dare series is a pretty direct victem of this sort of let-down. This book is really fun, smoothly-written, and filled with perverse, witty dialogue and action. But, it's just not as exciting as the first novel. For one thing, Angel Dare lacks some of the tough qualities she had in the first novel, maybe due to the fact that this one is not about her own personal vendetta. Here, she is merely in survival mode, allowing the people she knows to sacrifice themselves one by one to the opposition. In one case in particular, though, her mentality doesn't make as much sense as it should. The villain, who holds a sadistic grudge against her, at one point could easily have been killed off, but she runs away instead, leaving him for a possible return in a later novel. The character, in the first novel, I'm pretty sure would have just offed him, which I guess would have left the novel with more finality than Faust wanted. Also, the hopelessness of the situation is played up to ridiculous extremes. Every character associated with Dare is killed except for her enemies. This just doesn't seem likely. You might make me believe that the Croatian mafia are a heartless and dangerous group, but four men are not going to be able to take out every other person with such relative ease. Particularly because all but one of the villainous mafioso seem fairly stupid. In the end, though, this is an enjoyable book and a quick read.
A quick read but powerfully introspective.

Okay. Whoa. Let me catch my breath for a minute. This is a psychological thriller novel that is absolutely captivating. It's got everything that a book like this should have: thrills, unsuspecting twists, murder, breathtaking knuckle whitening suspense, questions and fantastic who-dun-its. This novel is written by a new-to-me author but she's certainly not new to the craft of writing. From page one, Gardner twisted me into the story and by the final page I was dizzy from all the turns, twists and bumps along the way. Tessa's story is phenomenal. A state trooper by day, and an abused wife turn murderer by night??? Well, that's just one of hundreds of questions that you'll need to read this book to find the answers to. Tessa's 6 year old daughter vanished.....or did she? Will there be enough time to save her, or is she already perished? Some more questions that are answered about the masterfully written pages. And what does Detective Warren find out as she investigates and digs into the family and breaks them down? Have I got you curious yet? I sure hope so! It's also my hope that you will take the time to read this emotionally complex, more than 5 star worthy, WOWtastic suspense novel. Lisa Gardner knows what a suspense lover craves in a novel and mixes it up to throw us an amazing novel that is so life like you won't know you've just read a novel-you'll feel like it ACTUALLY happened to YOU. Oh and one more thing.....what would YOU be willing to do for someone you loved so deeply????
