Profound interpretation of American culture. Symbolically, this novel completely critcizes and dismantles many problems with our culture. Certainly one of the best horror books I have ever read.

Blind man gets good sex and lives happily ever after.
Folks, the book is OK and so is the presentation as well the storyline. I have however given it 5 stars for the fact that it describes accurately the state of society that we live in today - the state of fear. We're being constantly sold the fear of Weapons of Mass destruction, nuclear wars, AIDS and ill-health. The truth is in this book. Read it and get a fresh perspective on your beliefs and then revisit the dastardly acts of those in power to realize the real reason why 9/11 occured, why Operation Northwoods [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operatio...] was planned and why we're subject to the incessant ramblings of the government and their corporate cronies on TV.

A lot of people consider "Catcher in the Rye" to be a classic. Which it is, I suppose, although I don't think it stands up against Dickens, Tolstoy, Steinbeck, Hawthorne, Austen, et. al. I first read it shortly after graduating from college, and its sense of disenfranchisement (for lack of a better word) certainly appealed to my rudderless twenties. Holden Caulfield is stuck in a sanatorium somewhere, having suffered a sort of nervous breakdown. Set in the 50s, he narrates his tale, which took place over the course of a few days just prior to Christmas break. He's 16 and already on his fourth school, where he recently flunked most of his classes. After arguing with his roommate over a girl, Holden decides to hightail it back home to New York City, three days ahead of schedule. He also decides that he won't tell Ma and Pa Caulfield, but rather will stay in a hotel, where he observes a few of his fellow dwellers in various states of strange behavior. Holden takes a few trips down memory lane, meeting up with past acquaintances, recalling a poem he read as a child, and bounding off on a quest to find the Central Park ducks that so fascinated him when he was younger. This book has been banned in a lot of libraries, and I can't quite figure out why. It isn't particularly salacious, even when it tries to be. Yes, Holden wants to get laid, but his attempts are sad rather than sexy. Yes, there is occasional racy language, but no murder, mayhem or violence. I've re-read this book a few times since my early twenties and always find something in it that appeals to whatever stage I find myself in at the time. That, I suppose, is the mark of a great work of literature.

It is an oldie, but classic goodie. Some decorating ideas are dated, but many of Dorothy Draper's tips and suggestions are timeless. Wish I had know about this book much earlier.

Excellent board book for introducing younger children to the idea of a new baby coming. Illustrates some of the changes during mom's pregnancy (lap is smaller, for exampler = ), and what the new stuff is for baby, all the way up to the hospital when baby is born. No words, so you can emphasize different things each time and vary the telling to keep their interest. For the next stage, of understanding what life will be like once new baby has taken up residence (and so much of mommy & daddy's time), get a copy of Joanna Cole's I'm a Big Sister or I'm a Big Brother - also excellent!

This was an interesting book because, it was based on the life of an African American women's life and the hardships she faced. The best part was that you get a good visual of every day life because the format it was written in was like a journal and in it is written how she felt and her experiences and the ways she overcame them.
