Short stories divided into two parts: the first contains five unrelated tales and the second contains a triptych of interwoven tales. All are excellently written and imagined. I think Lahiri is at her best with the short story format; I enjoyed both this collection and her Pulitzer-winning Interpreter of Maladies more than The Namesake. Lahiri explores familiar themes in this collection: Indian-Americans who feel misplaced in both India and the United States; exploring romantic relationships. It would be hard to narrow down a favorite here: Lahiri's attention to detail makes all of them special and stay in your head long after you've finished with them. However, the triptych would probably be the winners, as they are just so rich, explored from all three points of view, and the last one ends just so shockingly brilliant....Shocking in that you saw what was coming, but not in that way. I eagerly look forward to Lahiri's next work.

5 stars to Poison River. This second read allowed me to savor the nuances of the plot without getting frustrated like last time. This is to say, if you can follow the plot and the huge cast, you're in for a comic book masterpiece.

Too much contrived "wackiness". Also, is it totally insulting/lazy to name an Indian character "Gobi Aloo" or am I missing a really, really funny joke?

I did NOT finish this book. I decided that it would be a completely waste of time after reading a third of it and still hadn't gotten anything useful out of it. Not because there wasn't anything useful in it´. But because it was so unbelievably pretentious that I hardly understood a word of it. Obviously Michael Hicks is extremely smart and knows a lot about the Wars of the Roses. He just doesn't have the talent of conveying his knowledge. If I hadn't known just a little about the people and happenings of this era I would have been lost long before I was.

This story was so haunting and the heroine in dire straights through the whole 500 pages, I couldn't stop reading. An excellent tale set in the British isles following the tragic tale of Sorcha and the terrible tasks she must complete to save her six brothers from an evil enchantment.

Wonderfully steamy and erotic, and a great portrait of French salon-society to boot! You can't help but root for the deliciously diabolical Valmont and Marquis!

Una de las obras capitales de Wilde (la otra es De Profundis). Bellísima, sentida y apasionante canción, que nos araña el corazón con unos versos sonoros y musicales. Me deleita y me hace sufrir.
