Another fun one. Amazing amount of research, and while it certainly criticizes IBM, the presentation is more historical than political or emotional. I *did* leave this book convinced that IBM had a dark, dirty beginning, which only played into my generally negative view of most multinational corporations, and my disappointment and the crap people will do for money. Nevertheless, it's a really fascinating book; one way in particular being just getting a really detailed description of the machinations and methodologies (not to mention the logistics) of actually making a civilian database. Lot of work. Lot of crummy people involved.

- Eunike Sri Tyas Suci, Ph.D., Ketua Program Studi Magister Profesi Psikologi Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya

Quite a disappointing finish to a promising series. I was left with a lot of questions and feeling unsatisfied with why Bella and Edward were in a relationship (besides he's so hot). I just thought there would be more development in their romance. Her relationship with Jacob would have been more believable than hers with Edward. I didn't like the shifting points of view between Bella and Jacob and back. It was too long and didn't engage as well as the first three. The first part of Bella's story seemed could have been condensed; a lot of unessential things, like their detailed honeymoon trip. And after reading about how difficult it was to avoid feeding from the Cullens, I find it hard to believe that Bella was immune to wanting humans and that she adapted so quickly to life as a vampire just by being around the Cullens for more than a year. I didn't like that Bella was so ready to give up her human life without really considering the consequences, just out of love for Edward. Then the showdown with the Volturi was quite a letdown. This should not be a happy ending because of a HUGE GLARING OVERSIGHT on the part of the author. If Edward was under Bella's shield, he would have been able to read all of Bella's thoughts. And when Edward went to 'talk' with Aro, one of the Volturi's leaders, he would have saw that Bella's father 'knows' of vampires and everyone would have been wiped out. This whole book could have been better, and after three terrific books, this one left me baffled.

A complete history of the black presence in pre-Emancipation London (and England as a whole.) Every time I read this book, I am reminded how I first became interested in English and European culture and history. Gerzina is the type of scholar and researcher I hope to be, academic while still being completely engaging to the reader. Though sometimes she repeats herself, the book never lags. With the introduction of historical figures such as Odulah Equiano and Ignatius Sancho, not to mention many others, I see how entrenched black identity is within the fabric of historical and artistic England.

This book is hilarious - very much worth a read. You might even learn something...
There is no one like Amelia Bedial to get things totally confused and still come out fine!
A classic love story. It will probably always be one of my favorite books. It is hard to get into the old English at first, but once you get the hang of it its not so bad. The story is a great example of the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover"
I like the humor in history it gives

Liked it even before I knew what political undertones were.
