This is the continuation of Parker's L.A. Outlaws and includes some of the same cast and also many others. As much as i loved L.A., I did not feel as engrossed in this entry to the Charlie hood series. I can't really put my finger on a rason. All the prerequisites were evident:murder, sex, bad cops. I don't know, maybe it was just me.

********MAJOR SPOILERS******** A great end to a great series, no question. I fell in love with the Twilight series a few years back, and of course when you find a series you love, it's hard to think there might be another one out there. I've purposely held back my comparison review until I finished the whole series, because if VA ended terribly, it would've ruined all 6 books for me. But now I'm more than happy to say that this is my new favorite YA vampire series. I really never thought I'd say that, but I find the character depth and pulls-you-in storyline of the VA books much more enjoyable. Sure, Rose was annoying at times and Lissa was whiney, but the evolution of the characters throughout this series was perfect. Each character grew realistically from beginning to end with no illogical jumps. I guess the biggest example of this would be Lissa's journey from naive, overtrusting teenager to ***spoiler alert*** queen of the Moroi world is progressive, not abrupt. She isn't just thrown into the Queen's chair and told to "go be queen." She grows over the course of 5 books into a woman who has the intelligence and personality to rule. Likewise, Rose also grows from an incredibly over-impulsive teenager guardian-in-training to a semi-impulsive guardian who often reminds herself that her impulsiveness will get her very little in life. I do have to say, though, even though I knew ***spoiler alert*** Rose and Dimitri would end up together eventually, I was really rooting for Adrian all the way to the end. This truly is an amazing series and I can't wait for the spin-off series that's to follow.

Though I had a hard time getting into this book, I found it to be quite entertaining once I was engaged. Delaney does a super job of fictionally describing the high points in Irish history by weaving the traditional Irish stories of history (Newgrange, Strongbow, Brian Boru, Finn McCool) under one plot - a mysterious, traveling Irish storyteller pursued for years by a boy who is mesmerized by his amazing stories. There are strong subplots and a twist at the end. This would be a great read for anyone interested in Ireland or travel to Ireland because Delaney covers so much of the history and really demonstrates the Irish people's fascination with stories and story-tellers. I also appreciate Delaney's command of language.

Since I recommend this to anyone who liked watching "The Hustler" , I'd like to add if you haven't seen that movie, check it out. Except for how the pieces move, I knew nothing about chess when I began this book. I've finished the book, and still know nothing about chess. But while reading this, the rush and suspense of the game overtook me. I was absolutely in the edge of my seat... over chess. I'm not kidding.
