One of my favorite fantasy series of all time. I read about Taran and Eilonwy and Fflewwder Fflam, whose name I just butchered, and little Gurgi and his constant need for "munchings and crunchings" when I was in high school and I make it a point to read them once a year. It's a fantastic YA series and even now, for me, years from my age of 15 when I first read them, they still have that same magic. I guess there's still something of an Assistant Pig-Keeper in me that longs to be more. Alexander's expounding on the Welsh legends from which he derived the series is beautiful. The heroes are fantastic and the villains are delightfully scary and over-the-top. Prydain is certainly a place you will be excited about when you arrive and fulfilled when you leave. Do yourself a favor and check these out.
From Midnight Children on, seems that Roshdie’s preference moves tward the language rather than the narration itself. Comparing ”The ground beneath of her feet” and ”Midnight children” one comes to a more beautiful language but less interesting events.

Great, great book. Didn't think I liked reading about American history but this really changed my mind.

Elizabeth Letts is a remarkable author. Her first novel "Quality of Care" established her as a powerful new voice in fiction. This second novel is a compelling page-turner. From back cover: "The nurse practitioner at El Centro, a not-for-profit women's health center in rural Pennsylvania, Charlotte Hopper is responsible for the well-being of her patients, as well as her dedicated staff. Especially since the clinic's doctor is usually absent-and drunk. But soon Charlotte's carefully constructed life begins to unravel. Her old college friend moves next door and resurrects a secret so devastating that Charlotte's husband leaves rather than face the past. And after a heartbreaking discovery is made on the grounds behind the clinic, the women of El Centro must contend with being in the media spotlight-and being suspected of a terrible crime. Caught in a whirlwind of tragedies both large and small, Charlotte will learn just how much of herself she can give-and how much she must keep..."

excerpted from mcsweeney's.com... CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN FAMOUS PEOPLE AS IMAGINED BY SOMEONE WITH AN AMERICAN PUBLIC-SCHOOL EDUCATION WHO DIDN'T PAY TOO MUCH ATTENTION IN SCHOOL BUT WHO DID JUST ENOUGH TO PASS THE EXAMS. BY MATT PASSET J.D. Salinger and Christopher Columbus COLUMBUS: I discovered America. SALINGER: You're a phony, everything's phony. COLUMBUS: I sailed on three ships called the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. I don't think I had anything to do with the Mayflower. That was before me. SALINGER: Everything is phony. COLUMBUS: It was 1492 when I found America. That year is definitely correct. SALINGER: Were there Indians here when you got here? COLUMBUS: Yes. I discovered them, too. I don't think I had Thanksgiving with them, though. Those were Pilgrims. Maybe I was a Pilgrim, but probably not. SALINGER: I wrote one book and nobody ever saw me again. COLUMBUS: There were no books when I was alive.
An interesting book but some parts were a bit over the top. Did keep my attention througout though.
This book is good, the best in the series. It had Patterson's trademark, snappy, short chapters, with a bit of humor and a lot of action. I liked how the end played out. And how most of the book series reminded me of some big, blockbuster movie that I hope witch and wizard soon is. Plot is great. Same old characters...a couple new. All and all I recommend this book for readers who like Patterson, mainly his teen work, but who have also read the rest of the books since this is the finale.

Loved this book. It has a lot of historical info about Iraq and Saddam Hussein's rise to power. It is also a great love story and there are a lot of twists and turns with the plot.
