From starting of climbing in Yosemite to the Golden Age, Steve Roper explains all the evolution the evolution that happened in Yosemite valley from the inside. I enjoyed the book especially on the second part with the details of big walls attempts, description of the gear, the climbing philosophy, people thoughts and lives.

So this mystery is nearly as old as I am, copyrighted 1985. I'd almost never have known because it's not really dated at all. It's a really good mystery and in the end the crazed rapist murderer was totally not who I thought it was! yikes. It's a fast read too, a few hours tops.

I like Enger's writing style - he plays with language - sometimes it bombs but a lot of the time it is refreshing and delightful. I am not entirely sure I like the ending. It wasn't as pat as it could have been but it still seems contrived.

crazy sick twists!
Started off a bit slow, didn't go where I expected it to go, but a fun read nonetheless

oh my, I forgot that I am actually still reading this book... I found it in the car today, piled underneath some diapers (clean, of course...) Lets just say, I'm working my way through slowly. I dont know why I bother. Probably some sort of misplaced obligation to read books about my home town. But the funny thing is, Kennedy's writing is so arcane and unavailable, I can't for the life of me, figure out the where the precise neighborhoods he's talking about actually are! His maps are shit, and that exacerbates the problem. But perhaps this also signifies my utter geographic cluelessness with the place where Ive spent the bulk of my life (very akin to Justin's inability to understand the difference between US 60 and the Loop 101). I'll let you know when I finish it, if I ever finish it...
I wavered a lot when choosing a rating for this book. The dialogue is fantastic and I love the pace of the book. It's very snappy and fun -- like Jennifer Crusie without the overt humor and comedy of Crusie, but definitely the pacing and back and forth between the characters. I liked Josh. He was a good hero with believable and solid faults that I felt didn't magically go away, but that he is working on. My problem was the heroine. Every time Josh asked her to NOT follow him, not come with him on part of the mission she entrusted him with, there she was. It wasn't so much TStupidTL, but TStubbornTL. I recognize that she cares for her nephew, but it just started to annoy me. I did like the resolution of the book. I wasn't sure how the nephew would play out and I'm glad Dimon took the hard way out. It made the book more interesting. This was my first Dimon and I will read her again.

Can a man live beyond death? This book is a pure psychological thriller (in evvery sense). At first, the book can seen a little slow paced - normal crime book, but it picks speed and it just keeps on accelerating. What I love about this book is not only its intruiging and sometimes unexpected plot twists, the absorbing style of writing, the chilling suspense or the multiple possibilities of outcome in the story (even if the author gives you only two), but the deep characters. You live, suffer and die with them and you think you know their lives. In the end you realize you barely know them. I also loved the reference to Grimm's fairy tales with Rumpelstilskin and the dangers of paying back. This is one of the best psychological thrillers I've read. Highly recommended.
Definitely not nearly as good as books 1 and 3, but still an entertaining read. Getting to see the werewolf community for a while, and get away from the vampires, is a plus, as by this point I'm getting a little sick of the vampires. Jenks's role in the novel is huge and definitely one of the best points, as it gives us better insight to his character, his history, and the way that his species works. There's more Ivy-being-emo here, which is getting really old, really fast, but if you can get past this, it's still a great book. I have a hard time with the progression Nick's character has taken over the last couple of books, but if I try to think of them as two different people, I can get past it.
