First off, I'd like to congratulate Jason on getting his life back together. This book was a great insight into how the prison system works. Definitely makes you question some of the practices of our criminal justice system. Doesn't seem very motivating for most criminals to take a better path. That being said, the book tended to be a little non sequitur for my taste. I think I would have preferred more in-depth stories for some of the more major events. Even though this book might not have been up my alley, I think it is a great book for those interested in the criminal justice system. Update... my brother-in-law picked up this book and read it in less than 2 days, and he's not a very big reader. He said he really enjoyed reading about the prison system and was very surprised at what he learned.

Long but informative if one is interested in Truman Capote. It was amazing the people that he knew, who were his friends, i.e. his Black and White Ball for Katherine Graham. Also the way he lived his life even back in the day when gay/lesbian people were not accepted and in hiding.

definitely good fodder for discussion. i found this book interesting and thought provoking if not a little forced. i think the author has some terrific and convincing points but applies them a little too broadly at times.

This book tells the story of a group of mothers in New York City who have stayed home since their children were born and are considering rejoining the workforce. I thought the story overall was sympathetic to the women and their families, and many of the author's observations about family life rung true. I agree with many of the other reviewers, that many of the characters spent too much time in self-pity or selfish behavior. However, I thought that the author was cognizant of that, and part of her goal in writing this book was to show the shallowness of much of modern upper-class life. Perhaps I am being too idealistic here, though. It might have helped if she had focused more on Jill, the mother raising the developmentally challenged daughter, as a counter-weight to the women with privileged lives who always seem to want more. However, I thought the book was overall an interesting portrait of motherhood and family life, a topic that often gets inadequate representation in fiction.

(5.0) I want you to read this book Oh my goodness, this was one of my favorite reading experiences ever. I'm not sure I can objectively explain it, but I laughed, I nearly cried, my palms sweated, I was just riveted (ask my wife). This memoir is so well written (Agassi gave effusive praise to J.R. Moehringer, who helped him record his history and transform it into this masterpiece, and I'm sure much of the credit must go to him) that I just couldn't handle it. It is such an emotional ride--perhaps only 0.01% of what it's like to actually be a professional athlete--that every free moment I had I wanted to return to Andre-world. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud while reading this. The coincidences, the juxtapositions, the ironies, the cute courtships....There was humor in so many forms. It was all so sincere though. I guess that's what struck me the most. How open, honest and sincere the book feels. And given what he reveals in it, I have little reason to believe that anything is exaggerated, stretched or glossed over. But it's just so well written. I never had to guess who he was referring to at any point. He made so many connections between points in his life, but they were effortless to recall and connect. I've just never been able to follow a narrative so effortlessly, feeling I was completely on top of everything going on, past and present. It was just such a pleasure to read, even aside from the actual events taking place. One interesting typographical note: (at least in the ePUB version I read) There was no use of quotation marks to set off dialog. Without having read the book, I would've thought this was insanity and ridiculed anyone playing any sort of editorial role in the production...but it totally works. I can't explain it, but it probably comes back to how perfectly written the book is.

This is a departure from the legal thrillers you've grown accustomed to from Grisham. He does however continue to hook you on the main character within the first few pages. There are not twists or turns to the plot. I could easily see this turned into a screenplay. If you like "finding oneself", underdog stories you'll definitely enjoy this piece.

I really didn't like this book when i first started it. To me it was slow, boring & it just didn't hit me where so other books had & still do. I also realised so of the problems i was having was down to the me expecting the book to me like the book i'd just finished, full of action, but it couldn't be. It was then i asked in a facebook group if it would get any better, i was really worried about posting as so many people love this series. But thankfully everyone was really nice & told me that it does get better, to stick at it a little longer & i am so glad i did really glad as it did get a lot better more action & drama. The classic guy falls in love when it's the last thing in the world her wanted. I loved how Beth calm Wrath she is so good for him not doing what he says yet she loves the ground he walks on & he feels the same (i so wish i had that sort of love....don't we all?.
