its just like the title says. this book is tragic and amazing. fitzgerald paints the most incredibly detailed pictures. i'm glad i read this book now, in my mid 20's, at about the same age as anthony patch. i think if i read it younger i wouldn't have understood, and older, too painful. i didn't want it to end, because i was so enraptured with gloria and anthony's saga, and i knew it couldn't end well, and i didn't want them to meet some untimely demise. i'd rather have just made up some happy ending from my mind. all is cured! unfortunately, this isn't the case, and when we think about the patches now our thoughts will be pocked with the truth of their ultimate failure.

For a man who's main forte is publishing books on computer coding Rosebush shows a surprising amount of love, appreciation and tenderness to his subject. A truly wonderful collection of burlesque photos during the final, long and painfully slow years of it's decline this book is a true marvel and no burly-q collection should be complete without it. Featuring a breath taking collection of all kinds of photos (including Ms Lili St Cyr herself!) part of what made this book so worth having to me is that is focuses on several areas of bq that seemed to be glossed over by enthusiasts. 1) BQ revival is very much rooted in a strong feminist mind set with the emphasis being on "any woman can be a burlesque star", however this book goes so far as to remind us by SHOWING us that this is not something new. The women in this book literally DO come in all shapes and sizes and ages. From the old with sagging bosom, the the young and painfully thin to the ridiculously disproportionate (a size P cup is featured in some of the photos. I'll just leave your imagination alone with that for a moment) everyone is up and shaking it in their g-strings and pasties. 2) I'm hard pressed to name another collection of photos that has such a wide array of different RACES in their photos. Black, Asian, Latina and Indian bq stars are all given an equal page time in here along with their usual blond haired, blue eyed sisters. What a treat!

First off, I will admit that I watched the film before reading the book so naturally my imagination moulded the characters to those within the film. Truth be told, the film stays true to the book, and portrays it very similarly, so unless you really enjoyed the film and wish to obtain a more detailed account of all the vampires and character development, the film will probably suffice. I did find that the main two characters Bella and Edward acted quite differently in the book compared to the film, and their appearances are also pretty different, but the dialgoue is nearly identical throughout. The film 'Twilight' has been under massive scrutiny and criticism- in my opinion much of the snipings are unncessary and are unjustified, and as a consequence the books have been painted with the same brush. Yes, the plot is nothing spectacular, and plot holes can probably be counted on more than two hands. Yes it is a very corny romance and at times sickly sweet. Moreover, the writing and literature is nothing spectacular- it is fairly basic and probably equals J.K.Rowling in its sophistication. But I couldn't help but thoroughly enjoy reading it from start to finish, as the writing never lost its pace, and the gothic genre happens to be one of my favourites. I believe it is the fault of the main target audience (12-16 year olds being the majority) that have spoilt the Name and it's credibility- when something is mainstream and always in your face, receiving thousands of hardcore fans swearing their undying love for good-looking vampires,it is bound to aggrevate people. Avoid the hype and expectatiions, read it with an open mind, and then base your opinion on Stephanie Meyer. Also, don't mention to anyone you're reading the Twilight series as much as possible- you'll just paint a bulls-eye on your head!

LOVED it. Got so taken away with the story and characters that I was sad when it ended. I wanted to know more.......

I really liked this book--but I was familiar with some basic theology before reading it. If I hadn't taken a theology class in college, I would've been pretty lost.
