I enjoyed this a little more than Twilight. I am really disappointed in the quality of Meyer's writing. Character developement and a sense of the surrounding are severely lacking

This book changed my life. No, I didn't become a paranoid raving conspiracy nut (ok, maybe for a couple months after), but Robert Anton Wilson and Bob Shea's ability to intermingle facts with insanity and blur the line between them seamlessly taught me to question everything. It was incredibly funny, with stabs at everything, and it really works your brain out; punching, dodging, and weaving all while teaching some crazy crazy shit. That is if you are willing to believe. Heh.
Every Southern girl should read and understand their own mothers better-how they wear their tragedies like crowns and how their character flaws are considered "excentric", "dramatic" and "interesting". We all know someone or have experienced ourselves the pressures to be perfect (who's in charge of defining perfect?) and how stepping outside of that will get you slapped or sent away. And if those little experiments don't work out then you can either go crazy, become a drunk or get over it! Somehow religion always plays a part. This is the bible for southern dysfuncional women adnd the friends that love them. Also a great read.(:
I randomly picked this book up in the airport after my flight was delayed, and I couldn't put it down. World War Z: an Oral History of the Zombie War turns the tongue-in-cheek zombie genre on it's head with a first-person "historical account" of the fictional first zombie war. This book shows the collective stupidity the public, and gives us a glimpse as to how the world might actually react to a future plague. If you are a fan of historical literature, or even just of smart and well-written books, I would definitely recommend this one for you.

What a crazy ride! But crazy in a good way. Fenske is so hilarious it's really easy to get wrapped up in Making Waves. I loved the quirky characters. I'm an infrequent reader of her blog, "Don't Pet Me, I'm Writing", where she is just as funny. I'm sure I read on her blog that she has a couple other titles out and I plan to track those down and devour them asap!
Inspirational. Everyone can make a difference in this world.
A very interesting read.

I took a chance on this one - got it from my public library's usually sad collection - but it was probably worth it. A quick read, Zahra's story is sad and a little disjointed but just about as intense and introspective as she is. I appreciated the narrative voice, which developed along with Zahra throughout the book and slid between her delusional thoughts and what was actually happening. Not necessarily beautiful fiction, but an interesting exploration of femininity, psychology and sex amidst war-torn Lebanon.

I had a hard time reading this book, mostly because Letham's description of bullied, nerdy youth cut so close to the bone that it was painful. Illuminating, but hard to read. I love how dense and allusive Lethem's writing is here. Very Jamesian. Case in point is the scene when Dylan tried to quit working for Isabel Vendle, where Lethem describes how the dust in the light from her window looked so much more solid than Vendle or her carefully restored brownstone interior. Instead of mites or specks, though, he refers to the dust particles as "motes," with all that word's biblical resonance calling up her ambivalent position as a prophet of gentrification for whom none of her followers live up to her rigid, prejudiced standards, and who -- like another biblical figure -- is ultimately left out of the (dubious) paradise she worked to create. Fortress wasn't what I was expecting -- I didn't think it would focus so much on the psychology of the narrator and I expected the magical realism to give the plot much more forward momentum, which Lethem didn't seem that interested in. It's much less simplistic than that, though.
