I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it. I saw a lot of images and ideas from The Wire echoing through this book, as well.

This new installment exceeded expectations. I love how Ms. Frost doesn't shy away from exploring the darker and more gritty side of human/vampire/ect. nature. She also doesn't shy away from forcing her characters to face tough choices and realities. At the same time there is enough real humor to balance the darker moments. "Ask me if I sparkle, and I'll kill you where you stand." Oh how I adore Bones. Another thing I like about these books is that even though there is real affection and lust between Cat and Bones, the author doesn't sacrifice plot for smut. Though don't get me wrong there are a few truly steamy scenes. Two words... candle wax, but it is definitely quality over quantity. The only potential warning that I'd give is that there are major spoilers for the two side novels. I'd only read one of them, so I was kicking myself at a few points. Overall though, I can't wait for the next installment.
Am leery of "new histories" but author thanks Victor Davis Hanson in the acknowledgments, so it can't be all crap. I'm mostly interested in Germany before Luther, and having a hard time finding stuff.
This was a really fun mystery to read. It was interesting because the hero of the book is not a professional private eye, he is an upperclass English man who investigates as a hobby. A lot of the action is interspersed with breaks for tea or a nice lunch with his brother. It really cuts down on the suspense which I really liked because it let you focus on the details of the clues and the actions of the suspects without any great deal of emotional stress.
I'm so sad that this is the last book in the Daughters of Jacob Kane series! I enjoyed all three of the books and will read them all again in the future. My favorite part of the story was seeing Noah's feelings for both his father and his wife change as God brought healing and forgiveness into his heart. The romance between Noah and Abbie had the right amount of spark and conflict to keep my interest and it was fun to see Jacob surprise his daughters with a romance of his own!

This book picks up where Afterlight left off with Riley dealing with being bitten by two strigoi vampires. Of course, Eli, Preacher and everyone take her away to be detoxed. Unfortunately, it takes awhile and she doesn't tell Eli that Victorian is able to "speak" with her in her dreams. Then she starts having dreams/visions of another vampire's killings. I really enjoyed Riley and Eli together. I was a little surprised at all the sex but I'm not really complaining. I was just a tad over it since it seemed to happen every time they were together! Some parts did make me concerned with the way they were acting...Poor Eli is just so jealous and gets so angry! The Charleston Vampires were very interesting and I liked that whole spin on things. I think Noah is a bit dangerous though! It was great having the whole Savannah gang back together and seeing them work so well together. I did miss having more time in the tattoo shop but there really wasn't time. Overall, I really enjoyed it and thought it was pretty good for the alleged middle book. (Eventide, the last book, is out March 2012) I hope to see more progression on Riley's part in respect to her feelings for Eli. I'm curious to see how Elle Jasper will wrap things up. (ps. "Day yum" this book gave me a HUGE craving for boiled peanuts...which they do not have on the west coast!! guess I'll have to do some online ordering!)

I read this because a friend really enjoyed it. It was good, but it didn't wow me like it has some people. It is a good read to get a feel for the culture in the early sixties. About 2/3 way through the book, I very nearly stopped reading which I RARELY do with a book. But I plowed through the hard part (not much action and I thought sure something really bad was going to happen) the ending is satisfying.

I loved this book. Lots of references to Austin, which was fun. Lauren and her brother have always been close. Their father is in prison for murdering their mother. Alex believes he's innocent, but Lauren knows he's guilty. When Alex disappears in Iraq, Lauren finds herself adrift. She begins researching the case to be closer to Alex...

I learned a lot about apples from this book and you would be surprised how often I the topic of apples comes up in conversation.

Speechless...almost. Not quite as good (in my opinion which many do not share) as Everything is Illuminated. But if you like a more believable, less fantastical story, this could be a better fit.
