Simply the best space opera, and the best series of novels I've ever read. This is the first of the nine, and while the last three show signs of fatigue, these novels capture a cast of characters, and one in Marc Remillard, that are truly memorable. From the worlds and milieu May imagines to her evocative themes, the novels capture humanity with all its foibles and promise, and if you stick around for #6, you'll get the best plot twist in all of bookdom.

This book will help keep you near the cross for all your days. I highly recommend this book. This book is a great resource to help us agree with Paul in 1st Corinthians 2:2 where he said that he determined to know nothing except Christ and Him crucified.

A well-written interesting look at America's food system, how we consume and, most startling, what we consume. While this book may not immediately make you want to run out and join a kibbutz, it does make you think a little harder of what you eat, where it came from and what it was originally... My main criticism is I think Pollack errs on the side of idealism. It feels slight extreme and skewed to my journalistic sensibilities, because I don't know the other side of things. And practicality is not really discussed. I get really annoyed when people write/act condescendingly, and Pollack certainly gets that way in this book. Also: For about a month while I was reading the first part of this book, I went around saying CORN all the time. Read and find out why...
a difficult but beautiful read providing a greater insight into tolkien's world.

This annotated version is very enriching. It is especially fun to read Lolita once without the notes, once with the notes, and then read Pale Fire.

A morality tale. In my edition (Broadview Press) there is a very informative introduction, mainly regarding the social climate and the status of women that prevailed at the time of writing (1886). In the guise of an interestingly complex plot, the author , in a Dickensian manner, explores the unfair treatment of women under Victorian marital laws. All the characters come off rather well in the end if you are prepared to allow that humans are essentially flawed. The main actors display maddening but ultimately (in the author's eyes) forgivable frailties. At least one character, Bennydeck, is exaggeratedly saintly and is the author's representation of the ideal. If you like Dickens, you will probably like "The Evil Genius".
