I'm so glad I read this before I went to see the movie. I'd give it 4 and a half stars if I could. See the movie for the wonderful inventive animation, but be prepared to leave angry over its poor adaptation of Gaiman's story. To be fair, the movie does a good job of capturing the book's delightfully creepy atmospherics, but the movie adds a ridiculous, annoying boy character, and in doing so misses what makes Coraline such a great empowering story for kids--the fact that Coraline has an adventure where she faces and outwits an evil, saving herself and her parents, in fact saving all the adults she knows, without any help from anyone. That is, all by herself! Maybe movie execs thought boys wouldn't watch the movie without the addition of the boy character, but, weeks later I'm still fuming over the fact that this boy, who is useless for 95% of the movie gets to swoop in and save Coraline in the last minutes of the movie, stealing from her the privilege, which she has earned, of the final death blow to the Other Mother. ugh.

It reads like a very good magazine article, not surprisingly, since it IS a very good magazine article, basically, or a series of them, each one with the task of popularizing an academic research study by "rogue" economist Steven Levitt. Once I let go of my distaste for the back-slapping self-promotion and the gasping reverence, I quite enjoyed the telling of these tales of modern life that come out of a careful and deep reading of various data sets, which is the essential Levitt skill. Not nearly as mind-altering as the authors would have you believe, but engaging, especially as I drove around the mean streets of a modern metropolis.

It was such a great book! I fell in love with it. I became angry every time she left, but part of me kept hoping that in the end they would be together. Redeeming Love was one of those books that you keep wanting to turn the page and not put the book down. Fabulous!!!!!
I was not a fan of the ending. I guess I should have seen it coming, though (see: Brave New World review).
Not what I was expecting! A bit of Louie L'amour meets Edgar Allen Poe with the short story of Brokeback Mountain for the coup-de-gras...

I wont say much about this book, with all the hype it has. I finally picked it up from the library. It was free and I figured that it was time to give it a run. And I’m glad that I didn’t pay money for it. I love Pride and Prejudice. While I chuckled at the zombie scenes, and how things were turned, the magic was gone from the narration. By about page 100, I was a bit worn out with it. I’ve heard the book about Abraham Lincoln being a vampire hunter is better. I might give that one a try before I take the whole genre or classics with a monster twist off of my bookshelf.

If you liked Donna Tartt's Secret History (as I did), read this book! Similar in many ways and just as engaging.

La trama quizá no es demasiado compleja, pero los personajes son entrañables, la historia es resultona y el arte maravilloso.

Warning: graphic sex and violence. But, probably a must if you are into the TV series. A quick, no thinking demanded, read. Sookie is moderately interesting as a character...the other characters are poorly developed.

I loved this book. It reminded me a lot of Catcher in the Rye (in a good way). Charlie's writing style comes from his naive point of view. There is a lot of back story and the characters are very interesting. The ending was sad, but good.
