Very thought provoking academic book on evangelical theology and how it stacks up to other major world views today. I'm not sure I agreed with everything he says (McGrath seems a little more negative about some aspects of Calvinist tradition here than I would agree with), but over all very much worth reading. He does a good job explaining the deficiencies of both modernism, post-modernism and ideological pluralism. He also discusses some of the deficiencies of "post-liberalism", which I had actually never heard of before. It was a little confusing to me, because it seemed sort of like post-modernism-light and I didn't get really what the whole point of the movement is. I'm guessing that's a new movement that's trying to pave a way between theological liberalism and neo-orthodoxy, but being that I've never heard of anyone into that sort of thing, it didn't really mean much to me. Anyway, still, a good book, and I recommend it for anyone who's interested in a really academic defense of the evangelical world view. (Evangelical in a broad sense, BTW, as the author himself is a mainline Anglican.)

The Duke's Perfect Wife is the 4th installment to the Highland Pleasures series by Jennifer Ashley. I have had this book on my shelf for 6 months and just haven't gotten to it. I can not believe I've been missing out on this story for that long. Hart Mackenzie has taken care of his family for as long as he can remember. He's done all that he could to take the heat off his younger brothers from their abusive dad and to protect them from themselves as they got older. In his quest to out succeed his dead father Hart will stop at nothing to become the Duke. Due to his arrogance he lost the love of his life very young and he has a chance to make things right the only way he knows how. Lady Eleanor Ramsay threw Hart's engagement ring back in his face many years ago and has worked hard to forgive him and move on. Down on their luck Eleanor and her father are in need of money to survive. Not to mention nude photos of the soon to be Duke have been showing up addressed to Eleanor. Seeing an opportunity Eleanor goes to Hart requesting employ from Hart, so that she may find the owner of the photos and save Hart's reputation. This series is so nice because it includes all of the characters of the previous books. It's like catching up on old friends. I'm excited to see what is coming next. Http://tinar1121.blogspot.com

This is a strange and sweetly creepy little tale of a girl who flies Outside and Over There to rescue her baby sister from the goblins who stole her. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and the prose is complex and beautiful. A wonderful alternative to the Princess in Despair genre.

loved them all
Picked this one up a few years ago because I had heard such great things about the musical, but DO NOT recommend it to anyone. Way too much language and sex. I read the first couple chapters but disliked it so much (not only was it dirty, it was BORING) that I returned it to the library. Not worth the time.

Nowadays, there are so many reports about China's trillion dollar forex reserves, the renminbi revaluation, the liquidity glut and resultant inflationary pressure. But what are the causes and results of all these phenomena? As with most press, they merely report but lack the editorial knowledge to explain. Along comes this book that explicates it all. Researched by the famed Peter Peterson and Centre for Strategic and International Studies, this book illustrates not just the economic front; how China would shape the global social-political and security landscape is also suggested. Now, u might think its a bit overwhelming for one book to cover. Fortunately, its only a hundred odd pages so its written in precise and concise manner. I am a numbers person, so this book appeal a whole lot to me. Statistics and figures that are painstaking to find (especially for China) are tidily presented. For anyone trying to make sense of the situation in the Orient today, this book is a must read.
An eye for an eye !!!!!

Anne Nelson's book is wonderful - bridging important gaps. She tells more than the story of anti-Nazis living under Hitler (including a woman from Milwaukee). She gives a fresh, post-Cold War view of the petty bickering between dogmatists in the U.S. and U.S.S.R. She shows U.S. and Nazi life on the same page, a feat seldom accomplished elsewhere. And she shows the humanity of the rather ordinary people who stood up and said something, anything, rather than passively watching injustice from a safe distance. I found it gripping, and inspiring to take social action...and to live one's life for what matters.

If I had read "Before the Dawn" two years ago I don't think it would have made much of an impression on me, but because of the current economic crisis Hughes' story of a struggling group of Relief Society sisters during the Great Depression felt oddly relatable (is that a word?). I couldn't help but place myself in the story, and also draw parallels between its characters and women in my own ward.
