This book started out slow for me, but I kept hearing how it was more like Grisham's older books and main characters. I liked Kyle, I thought he was a young man caught in the middle. Toward the end it was too technical and too mundane. While I liked the outcome, I didn't enjoy how it left so much unanswered and unresolved. Maybe I just like all things tied up.....who knows. Still very worthwhile.

Yes, another Pratchett. I'm on a re-reading kick at the moment. Which is probably a mistake since my stack of books to be read next to my bed is currently in the region of 67. But Pratchett is one of my comfort reads, so I don't feel like apologising to myself too much. Carpe Jugulum is one of my favourites of the series. The writing and the dialogue are as sharp as ever; the characterisation of the witches is spot on; and the humour is just the right mix of wryly witty and really, really bad puns. (The vampires, for instance, live in Don'tgonearthe Castle.) The thing that really made the book for me, as is the case with all of the really good examples of the series, is Pratchett's understanding of human nature, and the pervading morality of the series. It's never something he beats you over the head with, but you come away from the book, not just entertained, but also provoked to think about things like religion and faith and modernity and what makes a person who they are. I always have to re-read the scene where Granny Weatherwax decides about twice, because, yes. Even if I don't always agree with the way Pratchett sees the world, he always delineates his views with such clarity and such precision, that I really love it. The Nac Mac Feegle are also the best thing ever. 'Snafflin' coobeasties!' I have love.
an excellent book, and still relevant after 75 years. the authers speak about "progress", industrialization, and the relationship between human society and nature, particularly as it relates to the artists. there are some racial issues which much be taken into account, but still an excellent manifesto

My Exact thoughts when SINS OF THE DEMON ended " Holy crap what just happened? NO you CANT END THERE." WOW WOW WOW. This is hard to write without spoilers but I will try super hard. Kara is a fantastic lead character. I absolutely love all the police procedure stuff and investigating skills that Diana writes in. The world building is great, I love the different classes of demons and their descriptions. I have no problem picturing all of them and imagining them in our world. I was completely shocked when the "bad guy" of the book was revealed, I had NO clue it was that person. I absolutely love Elihan, I would so pick her as my demon roommate. I have always loved Ryan, him and Kara are so frustrating together but I continue to have high hopes for them. Rhyzkahl, we get to see some new sides to him and I cant wait to see what he does about the situation at the end of the book. The revelations in SINS OF THE DEMONS definitely helped me understand some things I had questions to but also added so many more questions to my head. How long must I wait for book 4? PLEASE tell me it wont be to long. The cliffhanger is a killer but I have to say SINS OF THE DEMON is my Favorite Kara Gillian book yet. If you have not started this series you are totally missing out.
Her books are like crack!!!!

A brilliant book! I couldn't put this book down and I loved all the different storylines. There were hilarious parts but also terribly sad parts. I'd definitely recommend it.

Since I grew up going to Chicago on a regular basis, I was very intriged by this book. When I started this book, I thought that many of the buildings remained from the World's Fair, such as The Art Institute, The Field Museum, etc, but I was wrong. Turns out only one building remains, and it had to be rebuilt to be a permament building, since the buildings for the fair were built so quickly. I don't think this book is limited to those who are familiar with Chicago. The planning process by the architects, how they accomplished this with the resources of the day, and the fair's lasting impact makes it a great read. I won't give it all away, but here's a tid-bit of the fair's lasting legacy: Walt Disney's father attended the fair and would recall wonderful memories of the fair to him, inculding the park-like settings and the villages reconstruced from around the world. So, while the majority of the book is about the architects and the fair, there is another story weaved through: that of a serial killer and con-man (one person) who sets up a hotel near the fair, where young women tend to not check out after checking in. Interesting sob-plot, to say the least. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and had a hard time putting it down.
