I read this in Russian translation over a decade ago. I Liked it, but I don't remember much. Not rating.

Looking for readable contemporary literary criticism? Who knew it was out there? Chi'en has worthy readings of Junot Diaz and Nabokov.

I really, really liked this book. I have never read anything from the perspective of a person with autism and it was really fascinating to put yourself in their shoes. The way the author rationalized behaviour that we do not normally accept and how the main character had such a difficult time accepting changes to his life however small. The story line was a great way to showcase it all.

There's no question that the first GoT book is everything I'd hoped it would be as a big fan of the show. It's well worth a read for any fans who want a deeper understanding of the world. But I still had a gnawing feeling throughout that I knew what was going to happen. Perhaps this is just because the events of season 1 are so epic and since I remember season 2 somewhat less well, the feeling will be more slight next books. This thing is dense, so be sure to give it plenty of breathing space. Now I want to go back and rewatch the first season.

A student lent me this book, saying, as I always tell students, and as I told him about this book, "You HAVE to read the book before you see the movie." I begrudgingly brought it home for Spring Break, not really planning to read it, but wanting to make him feel good by accepting his offer to lend it. I figured it was just "for kids." But my current read was not hooking me in & I wanted something I could really sink my teeth into. Something told me to give "Twilight" a try, especially since I have the DVD in my Blockbuster Online Queue. Well.... night one, I was so caught up by the story, I read 184 pages, staying up til 3 AM, instead of falling asleep in my usual 3-4 pages! Night 2 I made it to p. 285. By that point, I was so happy to realize the book is part of a 4 book "Saga." This stuff all makes an extremely compelling read. I finished the first book in 3 nights, then re-read all the great scenes - several times (ahhhhh, romance.....). Then last night I watched the DVD, which was fun, but absolutely NOWHERE near as good as the book, pretty lame on much of the adaptation, mediocre acting, and way too much makeup on all the characters. But still a fun viewing & having read the book so recently filled in all the good details missing from the script, and the visual imagery is nice to have. Edward really was presented as beautiful, though I felt the book described him even better... Then last night, began reading the 2nd book, New Moon & couldn't put it down until 4 AM.

The writing is magnificent, but the story is disheartening.
The writing may not be the most eloquent, but I haven't been sucked into a story where I felt like I was living and breathing it in a while. I stopped reading one day and had to re-orient myself to real life. So, I'd say the story is good and it can draw you in: maybe a little childish, and maybe a lot predictable, but good
I love the Madeline(Madeleine in French)books. I have purchased these children's books in French as well.
