The first half was intriguing and enjoyable, but the author killed the ending. All things considered--an ok read.

The premise of this RPG campaign world is simply "What if, at the end of all things, evil triumphed?" Imagine Middle Earth if Sauron had regained the One Ring at the end of Lord of the Rings, or Morgoth's dominion over Middle Earth in the First Age. Of course, I was hooked instantly. Fantasy Flight Games has done a fantastic job with this world.

Jacky Faber rules! She is one of my favorite characters of all time. Who else would have the tenacity to take on such great adventures and the heart to sacrifice herself for her friends. These books exemplify everything that is great in young adult lit...a setting where you can smell the sea salt and hear the jigs being played in the tavern, plots that add dimension and understanding, and a character who teens can dream about being yet relate to on a very basic level...plus she kicks total butt!

This booked help me think a bit more about what I want my daughter exposed to. Kind of made me hyper-aware of just how much I need to sensor society in my home, down to the toys I bring in. I will definitely be checking out some of the classically written fairy tales to share with both my son and daughter.

I remember Jenny lent me here copy in 8th grade. It was in two pieces from --well, the 70's, I think-- but also from so much lovin'. Made me whimper like a kicked puppy. After seeing the movie, hard not to imagine Jenn without eyebrows the size of two small, neighboring countries, which is the way I prefer it, actually.
Its was a good book not something that interests me as such but all in all a pretty good book :)

This book turned out nothing like I expected and I was left with a few questions. I think the main character, Veronica, who told the story was a little psycho - this story went backwards and forwards and too and fro and I didn't really enjoy how the story was told. Told a different way this story could have been interesting. Liam Hegarty has just died by suicide, he was a heavy drinker but the real trigger was something that happened when he was nine and staying with his grandparents, Veronica told us a little but in an abstract way. She talked often about her Grandmother Ada and her grandfather Charlie and Charlie's best friend and his landlord Lambert Nugent, who had a lot to do with the story. The things Veronica talked about were guesses because she would not have known the intimacies of her grandparents relationship. She talks a little about her 11 siblings and how she was not happy with the fact that her mother had so many children. It says in the synopsis tht the nine surviving children of the Hegarty clan gather for wake of their brother Liam - this actually only took up such a short time - they did not get together until about disk 5. There was something definitely lacking in this story for me.
