This was a pretty short read; very entertaining. Even though the family was a bit dysfunctional and quirky and I didn't agree with things they did, I still liked the characters, the story and the journey. Amid the dysfunctional moments you could tell there was love. Learning about the culture and refugee situations of Egyptians, Christians, Muslims, Palestinians, Greeks, etc all in one family made for a very interesting story. The ending was so sweet and proved that the balance tipped in the direction of love despite all the fighting and craziness.

A story that unfolded beautifully and compellingly. Truly heart felt.

The story of race relations and prejudices in the south. A lawyer tries to teach his children tolerance for all people while the town wants to lynch a black man accused of raping a white woman.

** spoiler alert ** 3 1/2 stars. I'm not sure if the narration is entirely believable coming from a 5-year-old, but it's such a beautifully inventive voice that I didn't mind. The air really went out of the balloon for me once they escaped, though--I didn't find the second half nearly as compelling, although I liked the grandparents as characters. (Yes--I do feel guilty wishing that Jack and Ma had stayed in Room for longer!)
Allis of Montclair is a young woman struggling to run her family's castle and lands ever since her mother died and her father fell into the depths of despair. Overburdened with responsibility, she must be the lady of the manor and a mother to her younger brother and sister. To help her family, she is willing to enter into a loveless marriage to Rennick DeFrouchette, a man Allis does not care for at all -- until she meets Connor, a Welsh knight returning disgraced from the Crusades. Allis and Connor and instantly attracted to one another, and their feelings grow into love. When treachery threatens their happiness, Allis and Connor must fight to find a way to be together. This was one of the first adult historical romances I read, and I simply loved it. I'll definitely be reading more books by Margaret Moore, and more Medieval-set romances.

Very interesting. I think this book was release to early in the series. It should have been the 3rd release at the earliest and done as a 0.5 version as it would have provided a little bit more mystery to the overall series and is only useful as background info.

I would have written it differently :). Some neat (although not original) ideas. If you want to read a shorter version of this, go for Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra: a Book for All and None."

i'm sorry. i just can't do it. believe me, i've tried, but it just ain't gonna happen. i can't like Ayn Rand. i mean, sure she's a talented author. anyone who can read even a page of her prose can see that. she knows how to craft full characters and interesting plots. but there's just something about her. something i can't quite put my finger on. something that just irks me, deep down in the depths of my bone marrow.... Don't get me wrong, i love freedom, and capitalism is ok, too (at least it's not as boring as totalitarian communism), but i just can't jive with her world view. i can't put on blinders and try to see the world as a one dichotomy after another: black or white, freedom or fascism, individuality or collectivism. the world as i see it is painted with every shade of grey imaginable, and to not see that, in my opinion, is to suffer from myopia or severe lack of imagination. it's like my brother-in-law says, "There are two types of people in this world: those who believe everyone can be classified as one of two types of people, and those who don't."

A must have for every Deadspace player. A lot of lore and the truth about the myth, Altman. :D

The first few in the series were fun...but then they got kind of repetitive. By the end I was really just reading them to see how it would end, not so much because I was still enjoying the books.
