Loved it...watching relationship between Claudia & Finn evolve, her tense relationship with her father. Great plot line. Scientific stuff a little out there but can't wait to read sequel!

I admit it. I've got a thing for Mordred. Mordred and Loki are the awesome, talented, nice guys who are hated by those they love for reasons they cannot alter and, after being beaten down too many times, rise up. Loki acts out; Mordred stages a coup for the good of all Britons. Their failures to rise above and change the system are very sad. Someday, I'm going to write a novel from the POV of Loki's therapist. Anyway, The Book of Mordred was more about the young girl he helps (saving her from certain death at age 5, protecting her from villagers in her preteens, and then sending her off to Avalon in his place) than about Mordred. So, probably a better book that I'm calling it, but not enough Mordred for me. I felt cheated. When's the sequel to Clegg's Mordred: Bastard Son coming out? Even if liking it does convince Amazon.com that I want to read horrible gay romance novels, I'm dying for my next Mordred installment

I received this book through Good Reads's First Reads. An unflinching look at the oil trade in Nigeria, and the ramifications thereof. Oil on Water spares no one. Two Nigerian reporters are on the trail of kidnapped woman, the wife a British oil executive. What was supposed to be a routine ransom spins wildly out of control. This is undoubtedly a cynical book. (Though given the subject matter one could simple call it realistic.) However, it's not unbearably pessimistic. There are good people, though bad things tend to happen to them. This is not a book that is intent on providing simple answers. I had some minor problems with the writing. The time line jumps around, and it was sometimes jarring. I'm not sure if other people would have trouble keeping track like I did. Oil on Water offers a searing is slightly brief view into a world I know very little of.

Read this one for the feminist book club. It was interesting. Very refreshing to read a sci fi novel by a woman, I realized I hadn't done that much.

What a bizarre tale. Great read.

This is a beautiful book, full of stories about how our split-second, intuitive thinking works, and why it matters. I used to believe that we need to go through a long decision-making process before arriving at any decision, and that hunches and gut instincts are completely meaningless. However, I began to realize how experience shapes these instincts and how they can be the product of years of experience and thoughtful calculations. Blink elaborates on the idea that our unconscious thoughts have a great deal of wisdom that we need to consider, rather than dismiss for being too hasty.

I enjoyed reading this because of the added depth and background I learned about the characters, but besides that the book is so close to the movie I grew up watching that it just made me want to watch the movie. Still a fun read.

A lovely biography-- the earlier sections on her childhood and young married life in New York society were evocative. Meticulously researched, lots of juicy tidbits about some of her affairs. All in all, I recommend it, though I have to admit to skimming many of the long sections summarizing and analyzing Wharton's fiction.

This book was so good! It did not disappoint at all. I don't know about you, but I love it when an author openly displays that they love what they do. This book was well crafted & the characters well developed. In a way, "Callum" reminded me somewhat of Patricia Brigg's "Bran," but overall the story was totally original. Will be looking for more great stuff from this promising author. I highly recommend this author.

This book turned out to be better than I thought it was going to be. The prologue really sucked me in and I found that it was a a really quick and interesting read. The main characters are two sisters, Scarlett and Rosie March, and a neighbor named Silas. After Scarlett was attacked as a girl by a Fenris (werewolf) she has made it her duty to hunt them down and kill them. The sisters are very close but there is one fundamental difference between them. Scarlett has a need to continue hunting while Rosie dreams of a life beyond that. This becomes a bone of contention between the two as the Fenris begin coming out in droves, as they search for someone. The format of the book also helped keep the book fresh and interesting. The point of view started as a fairy tale describing the two main characters. Than the POV switched off between the two sisters. It was great to be able to see what each sister was feeling and hear her own words describing what was going on. It was helpful to me because I didn't like Scarlett all that much and if I had to listen to her 'voice' the whole book I probably wouldn't have finished it. So that was a key aspect in me liking this book. I see that the author has another book out, I will give that a try and whenever a sequel comes out in this series I will read that as well.
