I think short stories are much harder to write than novels since you've got a limited word count to connect to your readers. I love short stories because of the fact that they are... Short. This particular collection, honestly, I did not like it that much. I read lots of potential but basically thats it. Unexpected twists wasn't really unexpected at all. I've got a feeling that I've read this kind of stories before. Maybe the author could focus on one story and make it a full length novel. As i said, I've read lots of potential.

Read as the first book for my new bookclub-- a bunch of suburban moms! It was fun to discuss, but I didn't think the book was very well written... I did enjoy the spirit of what she was trying to say, though. I liked best her line: "Chinese parents assume strength in their children; Western parents assume fragility." That speaks to me and will likely impact how I try to raise my toddler!

I think if I had read these while I was little I would have enjoyed them more. But I am just to old for them now.

I have always had questions about religion, including who Jesus really was. Even though The Da Vinci Code is fiction, it gave me a comfort level I have never had when it comes to asking tough questions. It definitely opened my eyes to the fact that I don't necessarily have to believe everything I learned in Sunday school simply because people have been telling the same stories for centuries. Even if you are confident about your beliefs, this book is a great way to step out of the box a little and at least imagine things in a different light. It's also a hard book to put down because the story is so entertaining. Definitely a winner.

I tried. I really did. I wanted to read this and love it and have an even bigger crush on Steven Tyler than I already do. But alas, the book was so schizophrenic and did not hold my attention at all. Words were in bold, all caps, different fonts - my brain just couldn't process it. Plus, the book was written the way he speaks - scattered, with exclamations in the middle of the sentences, words that aren't real words, and jumping from year to year. Steven, I love ya, but I did not love your book. And that makes me sad.

I need a spiritual pick-me-up, a rejuvenation in purpose if you will. Sheri Dew brings in quotes and anecdotes from many different disciplines to relate to each reader. I felt inspired without it being too sappy, and introspective on my own shortcomings. She is direct, easy to read and I feel like I know her just from reading the book. This is just what I needed at this point in my life.

The book reminded me of a documentary. It is a window into another culture and part of the world through American eyes.

I was named after Amy in this book. It was my mom's favorite book. I have three sisters who were supposed to be named Beth, Meg, and Jo, but Dad wouldn't have anything to do with those names. Interestingly, I have a sister-in-law named Beth (her mom's favorite book too!) and she has sisters Amy and Laurie and a brother Joe.

Every chapter was captivating with a different situation. I couldn't put it down.
