I must confess I hate this play...I hate the whole "bed trick" story and how the character of Helena does utterly humiliating things, even for her time. It is one of the called "problem plays" and in good right too-apart from the character of Parolles, not much to save here.

One of my favorites in this series. Just have to love how Mercy refuses to give up her sense of herself, even for a desperately wanted mate. The compromises they make to meet in the middle for their bonding are great. Definitely a favorite.

The story starts with the ugly girl and ends with beauty and grace. It brought painful memories of school and how cruel it can be, however, she had a gift that changed all that in matter of days. One of the things I did not like about the book was the extremes it took, however, as you got into it, you realized that the exremes were needed. I think that kept me from getting to connected to the characters. However the ending was perfect. I kept thinking as I was reading this; it is just a 3 star but the ending was powerful.

This was a great book. Great book. I've read all three of French's books starting with In The Woods, and I have to say I like each one better and better. I really didn't enjoy In The Woods (didn't like lack of resolution at the end), but I loved The Likeness and loved Faithful Place even more than that. I realize I may have a bias because I lived in Galway for 6 months and love Ireland more than anything. Hearing the natural dialect is so nostalgic for me. But French has the ability to capture the reader's attention from the first page. And she's more than just a typical mystery writer because the quality of her writing is so strong, so authentic, and so original. Most mysteries - and forgive me all mystery-lovers out there - are built of just quick one-liners meant to suck you in as fast as possible. French actually creates the story in your mind with beautiful yet sometimes callous (it's Ireland folks, their dialect is sometimes a bit rough)writing. I can't say enough about this book. I loved it.

it's a good yarn, take it for what it is fiction!

My sister is a lover of Fantasy. She's read more Fantasy books that I know and has turned me on to several series I didn't know existed. The problem *whispers* is that if she knows a book is a movie, she watches it instead of reads it (I know, it's shocking). A few years ago she raved about this movie she watched called "Stardust", to this day she loves it despite the fact that Claire Danes is in it and she claims that my mother (who dislikes all things magical) likes it and has seen it several times. I have never seen the movie, but when I saw the book at the used bookstore I recognized the title and bought it, not knowing the plot. I love, love, love, love, love this book. I've already recommended it to all my friends and my sister (she just bought it...*whispers* to read). Frankly, this book has everything you could possibly want in a book lovely dialogue, romance, fights, intrigue and a unicorn, yes! This really is a book for everybody and I totally understand why they made it into a movie, as you don't really have to be a lover of Fantasy to understand it. I think that if you read this book you'll want to read more Fantasy and you may even want to read more Neil Gaiman. What I like about this book is that it's easy enough to read in a day, but still for those who want something with more depth, perfect for a summer read. I finished it on a Saturday in a house full of children. I could not put it down. That's what happened to me...I'm not really sure that I'm going to watch "Stardust", as I don't want to ruin my love of the book, but I'm now reading American Gods, and I read his blog and follow him on Twitter. I think Twitter was made for such things!

This was great. A great 'meta-spy' story. Even though it was written in '79 I think much of it is applicable to today. Read it on the Kindle... glad I did as I ended up having to look up more words than in anything else I've read. I'm kinda keen to read more Trevanian now..but I think I'll read something easier to take a break first!

Same as the first-fun but not incredible.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel to Random Passages. Ms. Morgan's style of writing is full of historical detail. She writes with clarity, descriptiveness and the novel flows well. I can't imagine living the life that the Andrews' and the Vincents' did. I don't know that I'd have the wear with all to withstand that kind of life, although I suppose if you were there you wouldn't have much choice. I hope Bernice Morgan writes a third novel and continues her history of these families through future generations.

This is an interesting book written from the perspective of several characters in a women's prison--a psychiatrist, the guard she gets involved with, an inmate (with a heavy abuse history) that she's treating, and a Hollywood actress the inmate is obsessed with. Having done a little work in a women's prison in South Carolina, I thought it was pretty real. I enjoyed switching between the different voices, and thinking about the human problems faced in all walks of life.
No esperaba mucho de este libro y me sorprendió gratamente. Fue una muy buena lectura.
