This was a fabulous story, well written, interesting, eye opening, and educational. I don't know a lot of details of the Revolutionary War (yes Dylan, I know you've been trying to get me to read 1776 for years). So I really enjoyed reading about that time and what was going on in America. While the patriots are fighting for freedom, this story follows a slave who is longing for a freedom of her own. It is excellent and I'm eager to read the sequel.

Great resource on the life and spirit of Ven. Pio Bruno Lanteri, founder of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary ~ that congregation living over @ St. Clement Shrine on Boylston St. If you want some more info on the OMV congregation, visit them at www.omvusa.org

This is the third Discworld book (in chronological order) and the best so far. It seems like they keep getting better. Next is Mort! Death!

This book was hilarious and full of fantastic characters. I'm still confused at what it all means. It's a good thing we'll be discussing it tonight at book club. I think I'll need the extra time to ruminate and digest this one. I'm baking a lemon sponge cake right now. I think decorating the cake together as a group will definitely add something to the reading. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/glorious...

This is low on my priority list of things to read, but it had a good review in a magazine for dietitians - "common sense, fad-free approach... easy for any reader to get started...". This was the best out of the reviews they gave compared to other diet books. I'll keep it in mind in case I can refer it to anyone who's interested.

I really enjoyed this. Good, without being too distracting during my exams. Really well written and excellent world building. And I'd really like to try Sunshine's cinnamon rolls.

I read this during my trip to Africa. It wasn't that great (the book, not the trip. The trip was amazing!)

"City of Quartz" was wonderful, dense and disturbing; "Late Victorian Holocausts" is profoundly fucked up. Davis essentially maps out the casualties caused by various colonial states during the latter half of the nineteenth century, specifically comparing living conditions in various areas before and after the establishment of colonial rule. Most of the man's books are polemical, and this is no exception, but as usual there are reasons to be pissed, and Davis's impeccable writing, research and usual acerbic style bring the crises of history home all too clearly.
