A yound girl leaves her only family, her grandmother, and sails to America with all strangers. Works for years by making lace, that her grandmother taught her to make, to save to get her Grandmother to America. Beautiful story about working hard and being grateful for our freedom.

This was a fun, quick read. I laughed out loud at several of Gilda's antics and insights.I thought that the actual mystery part of the book could have been better, but I enjoyed the book overall.

Almost identical to Meg Cabot's "Queen of Babble" but I enjoyed it a little more (although I like the main male character in "Queen" more.) It is a fun and easy read. Not quite to the caliber of Shopaholic.

She's a terrific writer, who often can put a funny twist (usually a metaphor) in the most unexpected, dark places. I appreciate that kind of humor. When she compared her memory to what she'd written in her blog, that pulled me out of the narrative, and I kept wishing she had just stuck with her memory and not kept referring to what she'd written in the blog. But on the whole, I enjoyed this memoir a lot, not just for the parts about infertility treatments (a pool I've tipped my toe into), but for her portrayal of the world of premature babies (which is completely outside of my experience, having started my mothering with a six-year-old, which is about as far from a premie as you can get!).

** spoiler alert ** The previous two books in this series were total guilty pleasure reads, so I was looking forward to this one. But this one just didn't deliver. It was O.K. until the end. The ending just seemed so implausible to me. Are we really supposed to believe that by cutting her hair off, Diana is now ready to fool the world, pretend to be man, and join the army? You've got to be kidding me.
Typical Danielle Steel story - good entertainment.
Very spiritual. I was a little worried that it was too religious for me, but that really was not the point.
Better than the first. Couldn't put it down.
