Hidden Away by Maya Banks Romantic Suspense –March 1st, 2011 4 stars Hidden Away is the third in the KGI (Kelly Group International) series about brothers who have formed an elite team that take care of ‘business’ the military cannot. In this story, Garrett Kelly finds himself injured and he is asked to keep track of a woman named Sarah Daniels. Sarah is under suspicion because she is a witness to a murder and on the run. And the Kelly Group wants to find out what she knows. Soon they discover that Sarah is the half sister to an evil underworld boss. Garrett finds a terrified Sarah in hiding. But as he gets closer to his target he begins to admire and care for Sarah. But what will happen when Sarah must choose between a new love and the brother she adores? Maya Banks has written a wonderful series with the big and loving Kelly family. I loved reading the interactions between the family members and how they take care of each other. Sarah is a sweet and vulnerable woman who is trying to protect her half-brother. She is probably the most timid of all the heroines in this series and I enjoyed reading her become more self-sufficient. When Garrett looks to finds Sarah and seeks to win her confidence he is surprised by how much he is charmed by her caring and guileless nature. I loved reading how Garrett comes to Sarah’s rescue. He is like a modern day knight in shining armor. I especially liked Garrett because he is tough and cunning but he also shows a softer side than his other brothers (in the previous books). This quickly made me love him! I especially liked reading how Garrett really watches out for Sarah and his sister-in-law even when it makes him uncomfortable because it isn’t ‘manly.’ But he does it because he loves them. He is my favorite Kelly brother to date! Fast-paced suspense and a to- die-for- hero make this book well worth the wait! Reviewed by Steph from the Bookaholics Romance Book Club

I read this book in about 4 hours. It was an immensely chilling, scary, page turner to say the least!!! I was totally mesmerized by this novel and the more I read the faster I wanted to read. I couldn't get through this fast enough. All I can say is I was terrified for Cassie!

The title of this book does not lie. There is a sadness that saturates this novel, but its style and voice were enough to keep me engaged. Rose has a unique ability to taste emotions in the food she eats. What she learns about her family in the food they cook is unsettling, and she seeks the anonymity of factory made food. The book follows Rose in different phases of her life: at nine when she discovers her gift, at twelve, at seventeen, and finally at 22. The maturity of her voice develops throughout and her observations and commentary become more acute. There is a strange element with her brother that is never clearly defined or even resolved, but it articulates the peculiarities of her family’s innate abilities. I enjoyed the beginning as Rose tried to define her new talent and how it overcame her. The conclusion, though somewhat open-ended, left me satisfied that Rose had finally found her purpose in the world. Everything in between was a melancholy account of her interaction with friends and family and the events that shaped her. I must give the author credit for being original and having a sense of style, but the underlying sorrow didn’t quite make this a five star book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the Goodreads First Reads program.

This is the second in Sherlock files about Xena and Xander Holmes who have inherited Sherlock Holmes notebook of unsolved cases. This second one wasn't as good as the first. While I felt the solution to the modern day mystery was satisfying, the solution to the original Sherlock Holmes era mystery felt tacked on. However, I think that kids who are looking for mysteries will still enjoy it and will be eager to read the next one.

This is a pretty good series so far. I like the main character. she is strong, confident but does have some soft sides to her.
I love Miss Manners, even if I don't 100% agree with her somewhat old-fashioned etiquette rules. She's hilarious and a bit condescending but she lets you in on the joke. I want to read all of her books!

I first started reading this book about a year ago, and couldn't get into it. I picked it up again last week, and while it was a little slow going at first, I ended up really liking the story. The author has a great attention to detail (sometimes it feels like a little much). I must confess that I didn't really see how Jamie is Claire's "one true love" - it just seemed like they suddenly loved each other. Overall, though, I really liked the book, and plan on giving the sequel(s) a chance.

At West Point, in 1930, a young cadet is found hanging, an apparent suicide. Then the next day his heart is stolen from where the body lay. Edgar Allen Poe becomes involved in helping the NYC detective brought in to handle the inquiry. Poe drinks too much, writes poetry, and changes the story of his past with each telling. I really enjoyed the book and found Poe to be even more odd than I previously thought!
