I seriously couldn't stop reading this book, and I'm glad I had all four volumes so that I didn't have to!

This is about Ferdinand and Isabella and the connections among 4 events they created : The Spanish Inquisition, the defeat of the Moors in Spain, the expulsion of the Jews from Spain, and Columbus' discovery of America. F&I had many positive qualities but set a record for false consciousness (the purpose of slavery was to save the souls of the heathens, the purpose of driving Jews out the country and confiscating their wealth was make Spain a pure Christian nation, the purpose of funding Columbus' voyage was to obtain gold to finance a Crusade led by Ferdinand to reclaim Jerusalem, etc etc.)

So excited to read this when I saw it on the new shelf at the library. I read it quickly to myself since Natalie isn't yet versed in the potty. But this book is coming home with us when we start potty training. It was just as funny and adorable as the first one. As the book goes on, you start to squirm a little thinking that Dinosaur must have to pee. I liked how there was still roaring, as that was our favorite out loud part of the first book. My only concern with this book is kids might think they could wait too long before going potty, but if you read it as Dinosaur goes when he gets that feeling, then I don't think it will be a problem.

Very well written. The story unfolds at a suspenseful pace. I will look for more from this author.

** spoiler alert ** Well, I learned about hiking, however I was VERY intrigued with the geological history Bill provides regarding the Appalachians. The book started out with a bang and was hilarious for a time, then it went into a lull which was laborious for me to get past -- when Bill and his hiking buddy, Katz leave the true thru-hiking and start sectioning. And Katz leaves the hike altogether for a time. However, when Katz returns, the book picks up its admirable flavor of comedy. The book does not pose a "this is for everyone" message regarding hiking. Bill is rather honest about the difficulties they had. I appreciate this and have beefed up my review back to a 5 star.
