Have decided to go to the back of the bookshelf and read some of the books that have been sitting there for a while waiting to be read. After being disheartened by a few reads that didn't grab my attention I thought it was a good idea to go to some authors that have never let me down in the past. This was a delightful read, nice to read about someone who isn't an Earl or a Duke and has had to earn his fortune by honest hard work. Simon Hunt was has certainly made his mark in the world but has been unable to make his mark on the ton. Lisa Kleypas' historical romance novels are just delightful and a joy to read. Lots of contented sighs and chuckles from my quiet reading corner. "Its usually painful for a woman, the first time,: he murmured. "Yes, I know." "I don't want to hurt you." The admission touched and surprised her. "My mother says it doesn't last for long," she said. "The pain?" "No, the rest of it," she said, and for some reason that made him laugh again. Just delightful!

This book was definitely hard-hitting(at a popular and largely readable level at least) approach to an industry that is so embedded in the fabric of America. While I can't say there were many surprises by this it was still so fascinating to hear about something that is so inherently American. I really appreciated that he took a pretty level approach and didn't come at it with a huge chip on his shoulder and a mission to destroy fast food, etc. He was honest and straight forward and didn't overstate his relationship with food. The honesty shone through and it made this a very enjoyable read.

Dan Brown does amazing research and has some great ideas and concepts that grab a reader's attention. The plot moves quickly and he is following the formula that has worked so well for him in the past. However, this one falls flat. In all his books he has displayed a subtle contempt for Christianity - and any religion, but he focuses on Christianity in all his books. I have had no trouble separating his views from mine and the books are still great reads. This time, however, he really gets on a soap box - there is certainly nothing subtle about it this time. He pushes his aetheist-Scientologist agenda full force in the final chapter - it was barely even related to the plot...and i believe he finally reveals one of the true motives for his books...ironically to convert readers to his "religion". This will likely be the last Dan Brown book I read...if you want to enjoy his books in the future - and you're not a scientologist, don't read this one!

Another great book by Michael Crichton. This was the first of his books I read and look forward to reading more from this author. I like the idea presented in the book and enjoyed the suspense and twists.
