Stephenie Meyers' use of discription is above most else I have read. You are quickly drawn into the feelings and emotions of the characters. It's as if I could feel, taste, smell and see everything that was happening.

Brilliant and romantic, the tale of Jane Eyre is at once somber and uplifting. Raised as an orphan by an unloving aunt and then sent to boarding school, Jane's fierce intelligence helps her to become an independent, opinionated young woman who falls in love with an unattainable man. Recommended to all.

Huge disappointment.
A twisty tale featuring a former terrorist who is trying to keep his head down in Barcelona until an old comrade looks him up and asks for his help. Under the name Sam Reaves this author wrote one of my favorites last year Homicide 69 and this book shows off his great versatility.

Since I was in the restaurant business for awhile, dated and even married/divorced a chef a long time ago, nothing in this book surprised me. I will probably try to read another one of his books, but like foodie books that are more about the food. Respected his awareness of his own strengths and weaknesses, and his love of the food.

I had a lot of fun teaching this book to my students. It is a scary and interesting dystopic view of where technology may take us. Most of my students liked the casual language and swearing, but some thought it was overdone. I agreed with the latter. Although the language was effective in conveying how stupid these kids are in the future (as a result of the feed), I think it could have been accomplished without so much swearing.
Connie Goodwin, a graduate student at Cornell University, has been asked by her mother to spend the summer preparing her long-abandoned ancestral home for sale. Once there, Connie begins to uncover her close links to the Salem witch trials and the existence of an actual colonial spell book. Over the course of the summer, the mystery slowly begins to unravel and Connie begins a romance with a cute Steeplejack. However once weird, supernatural things start happening around her and Connie's mentor starts expressing an unnatural interest in the spell book, she begins to suspect that the old tales of witchcraft are more than just old-wives-tales. Complete with an engaging mystery, intriguing slices of historical drama, and a full-fledged Hollywood ending, it's easy to predict that this book will be very well received.

My absolute favorite book of all time, hands down. Not only because it is about the revolutionary hero himself but, because of its ability to speak to society's present-day needs for revolutionary change. Brilliant forward also, by A. Haley. Read this while I was in India and am convinced it transformed my entire experience there . . in a country blessed by masses yet plagued by poverty, boasting with economic potential yet overcome with a rotting bureaucratic system. But a country with gumption. And class (in every sense of the word).
