This is the first book in a series and it was much better than the second book. It is a really short book and a quick read for a cheesy romance story.

Um livro que, na minha opinião, oscila entre momentos verdadeiramente intensos que são capazes de nos agarrar vivamente e momentos profundamente enfadonhos que quase fazem perder o interesse em prosseguir a leitura.

Really, 3.5 stars. This YA fantasy grabbed me, sucked me into the story, and didn't let go. Jason, being the main character, was most fully realized and developed, but I enjoyed Koren, Elyssa, Randall, Tibbets, and the others, too. The dragon Arxad was most intriguing as well. What I liked about this book is that it didn't follow a predictable pattern. The dragons have their own sophisticated culture, with humans as slaves. Humans on both worlds were mostly serfs or slaves and that didn't seem likely to change. The arrogant and somewhat bratty son of the governor becomes part of the solution instead of staying part of the problem. Story-telling can be a powerful weapon. Young men and young women can both be brave leaders. This book is the start of a series, and while part of the adventure wraps up, there are many unanswered questions and unresolved issues. The author has a lot of story left to tell. The author's style makes for easy and enjoyable reading--enough description to allow the reader to see the action, lots of dialog, and fast-moving action.

If I were to tell you that an old Russian Jew would become the hottest tailor to Country & Western singers you'd tell me to go piss up a rope, wouldn't you? But it's true, and he also made clothes for The Monkees, Glen Campbell and millions more. This book is chock full of eye-popping photos of his great clothes and celebrity clients, and THAT CAR! I remember his boutique on the corner of Santa Monica and Crescent Heights. (This book was purchased at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

I just love these books. Georgie is so fun, the mysteries are a treat, and that Darcy O'Mara is a hunk. ;) My roommate asked me if the mysteries in this series are predictable, and I couldn't remember. I think they probably are a bit on the predictable side, but I enjoy the story so much that it really doesn't matter to me. I'm excited to read more now that I know there's already a fifth one out!
X men meets WWII history. Great read!

This was a bit slow to get going but it was all in all well paced, the plotting was intricate, there were some loose ends but i think this was intentional as Potzsch has more installments in mind for the Kuisls. Very good. During the course of researching his family history Oliver Potzsch stumbled upon the information that he comes from a long line of executioners! This discovery inspired him to write The Hangman's Daughter. This first book in a planned series takes us to 17th century Germany where we meet Jakob Kuisl, the hangman of his Bavarian town. Chaos erupts when a young boy is found dead in the river with an arcane mark on his back. The town demands satisfaction and lays blame on the head of the midwife. The Hangman's Daughter is filled with fascinating details and cultural perspectives on science and medicine.

The first of the Amelia Peabody series! Peters wanted to have each title in the series be a quotation from an ancient inscription, and she nearly accomplished that goal (the publishers made her change the second in the series to Curse of the Pharaohs). Crocodile on the Sandbank, if you have read Amelia Edwards's A Thousand Miles up the Nile, will seem familiar, as will Radcliffe Emerson if you are at all familiar with Flinders Petrie (the "father of scientific archaeology"). The whole series is wonderful, and since MPM has her PhD in Egyptology, also well-researched (with lots of funny tidbits for Egyptophiles to root out). I recommend reading them in order, although each conceivably can stand alone (but it's a gas to see them all grow up/old). "Tell me, Evelyn--what is it like? Is it pleasant?" (18)
This is a great read that is clear and entertaining, but I'm not sure how many people are really interested in financial derivatives. I work with them, so this book is providing a basic background that, so far, I haven't found anywhere else.
