An extremely short, lighthearted book written [ostensibly:] by a girl of around 12 years of age in the early 1900's. Each chapter is her interpretation of her world as she sees it. Her views on everything from religion to fashion is quite hilarious. Definitely worth digging on Amazon for a used copy.

Told from the perspective of a child living in Libya in the late 1970s. Relationships, situations, politics from the point of view of a nine-yr-old. I loved this, a completely engrossing and fascinating read. story and characters were fast-paced and alive, and I found myself fascinated with the politics, culture, and dynamic of life in Libya and Egypt during a time of obvious historical political upheaval. The narrator, Suleiman, is a pretty wonderful character, very well developed, but his mother was even more interesting to me... there was a lot of background woven into her story, much about the lives of women in that time and place.
