Sort of "hard-boiled detective novel" with elements of urban magic. The series starts out a bit rough; he hits the "detective novel" bit pretty well in this book, but the magic isn't really well-explained. (See Sanderson's First Law). This series is unusual in that the quality of the books gets better later in the series. The characters have solid story-arcs which actually grow through each book; he's up to book ten and is still going strong so far.

I really had fun reading Aidan's designed picture of Darcy's private life. I like thinking he was longing for Elizabeth during their time apart - and to get a peek inside his relationship with his sister Georgiana. I am even more excited to read # 3 in this trilogy!

Looking for Alaska is still my favorite of John Green's books, but this one comes in second. A lot of other folks have commented on the similarities between his characters, and yeah, they kind of have a point. But he writes those characters so well that I don't even care. And I always really love the directions he takes his stories in...they never end the way I expect them to, and I appreciate that. Bravo, sir. Keep up the excellent work!

A terrific series opener from Dunn, whose Daisy Dalrymple series is deservedly popular.
