I never finished reading this book, mostly because it was preaching to the choir, and I got bored. I may give it another chance, if I ever have the time.

First, and probably my last, Stephen King novel. Very long and the more I read, the harder it was to read, it seemed. A disappointing and very weird ending.

Best book I've read in ten years. One of my top ten all-time favorite books. I read it, immediately listened to the (fabulously produced and read) audiobook and re-read it. I want to stew in this novel. It's that good.

Now, this is a thinky fantasy novel. And a touching romance. And a whole lot of fun. Bujold is an excellent prose stylist. She tells her tale in language that is elegant, artful, and unnoticeable. She is not a wasteful writer: any detail she chooses to recount is going to be important later on. Her characters are well-rounded, her plot without obvious flaws. What a great find!

I have to admit this book was excellent.... but I was not blown away like I was by the other 2 books. I thought Katniss was very moody and annoying at some times. On the plus side you get a lot more of Gale in Mockingjay then in the other two :)

A very educational look at how the appointments to the judicial bench influence the laws of the country and how the judges make their decisions. Disturbing in how removed from reality some are. A fascinating look at their culture. I enjoyed this book.

It took me awhile to actually finish this book. I really enjoyed the book but I found it terribly hard to get into. I kept trying to read it on the train or a short bus ride and I never fully appreciated it reading it that way. BUT I was stuck on a plane for about four hours and just read my little heart out. I have to say it made the book WAY more enjoyable and easier to read. You really get transported to another world and the more you can immerse yourself in that time, the better time you will have reading the book. I think the description and the fantastic events that happen in the book really make this one worth reading.
I had high hopes for this book and it started great, but it didn't live up to my expectations. The story lacked the emotion I needed. It was hard to feel connected to the characters.
Another in LK's line of Princess Meredith novels. I like this one simply because it is a better story and not just one excuse after another for Merry having outrageous sex. Not that it isn't adult content, but that last couple books have had a bit too much sex and not enough other action.
In the Hand of the Goddess is a stellar sequel to the First Alanna book, and never fails to deliver the same action, challenges and underdog attitude of Alanna! However, In the Hand of the Goddess is far more mature, and shows a new side of Alanna - her growing perception to maturity and the need to face her own personal demons. Pierce's brilliant novel starts up with Alanna meeting the Goddess herself, where she tells Alanna she must overcome three fears - fear of the final test (to become a knight), fear of the Count and the fear of love. Alanna's adventures now transcend the bounds of physical battle as she learns to cope with her emerging feelings and relationships with others. In the Hand of the Goddess stars because it lets Alanna confront the things she has feared, it's a story of Alanna maturing in more ways than one. For one, I found the romance quite endearing, even if Alanna did struggle with her own personal demons in the process. However I was pleased to find that Alanna did not completely reject her own sexuality - she accepts the her that wants to love, to love a man and accept his love in return. Too often this is a blunder in the kick butt female leads, women who are so concerned with physicality and power that they forget what it means to love. Alanna is truly our wondrous heroine to prove to the world that females can be kick butt and enjoy a bit of love too! There's some episodes and altercations in this novel that I found a little downplayed. Some enemies seem to be too easily beaten, and in retrospect it makes the novel seem anticlimactic at points. I wish Pierce elaborated on certain physical struggles - not just Alanna burgeoning relationship woes. However, all in all In the Hand of the Goddess is a wonderful sequel that never disappoints fans of the first novel. My only major regret is that I wish I could've discovered this when I was a child!
