Lisa uses God's word to help moms take the time to care for themselves w/out the guilt we far too often feel as moms who give and give and don't refuel ourselves. She does this through her "picnic basket full" :) of time-saving tips and down to earth ideas so we moms can fully enjoy the things that value most = God, family, and relationships!!

This was a truly wonderful read. I didn't give it 5 stars because I don't hand out a ton of those and the book did fizzle somewhat at the end. "Searching for Schindler" is the story of how Thomas Keneally discovered the story of Oskar Schindler, the research for the book "Schindler's List" and how the movie came to be. It is also, in some respects, a tribute to Poldek Pfefferberg the Schindler Jew whose persistence got Keneally's book written and Spielberg's film made. Schlinder's List was a story that needed to be told and Poldek Pfefferberg had an amazing sense of persistence and determination to offer the story up to anyone who might have the ability to tell it. Reading of Keneally's detailed research and interviews with the Schlinderjuden was as fascinating as it was moving. Anyone interested in holocaust history should read this book.

The Naked God didn't live up to my expectations. I was warned in advance that the ending left a bit to be desired and unfortunately in this case, the warning was quite apt. I have enjoyed the entire series up to and including this book, which made the ending especially frustrating. Other reviews have dismissed the ending as a "Deus Ex Machina" which is true enough, however for me at least, that's not necessarily a problem if handled well. When not handled well, such an ending diminishes everything that has come before it. It makes the protagonists struggles and tribulations ultimately irrelevant in the face of sheer, effectively "magical" power. Unfortunately, The Naked God falls in to this latter category. Several developing plotlines and worse, character developments are ultimately rendered irrelevant by the ending, and unfortunately, in ending this way, the entire series has been diminished

This is a very good book. It is perhaps a bit technical at times, but still easy to follow. The technical bits simply require you to step out of the flow of the story and figure out what you can about what's going on. The last section of the book is presented in a subtly cinematic style that beautifully attunes the reader to the emotional wavelength of the experiences being related.

I really enjoyed this book; I only wished it would have been a lil longer. More into detail of it's characters. But even as short as it was I really love all the Westmorelands...

Darynda Jones' debut novel - part fantasy, part romance, part mystery, sometimes funny and sometimes sad . . . Protagonist Charlie Davidson sees dead people. She got her private investigator's licence so she could show up at the crime scene to help Bob, her police investigator uncle, solve murders without too many people asking questions. She is involved in an intensely physical relationship that takes place only partly on the earthly plane. And even though not everything taking place is visible to others present I found it a bit creepy in an exhibitionist sort of way that these things were happening in a room full of people. Charlie's job is to help the dead cross over, an assignment she handles mostly with humor but also with a bit of sadness and regret and lessons in letting go. Good book.
I'm sorry Harry Potter fans, this just didn't do much for me. I finally decided to give these books a try after hearing about them for the last 15 years. I feel very luke warm towards them, which is why it's taken me this long to open them.
Only one more to go :-(! One of my favorite quotes from this book: "One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways." And one of Trevor's favorite laugh-out-loud quotes: "But the three siblings were not born yesterday. Violet was born more than fifteen years before this particular Wednesday, and Klaus was born approximately two years after that, and even Sunny who had just passed out of babyhood, was not born yesterday. Neither were you, unless of course I am wrong, in which case, welcome to the world, little baby, and congratulations on learning to read so early in life." He made me read it aloud twice.

This is a great book for individuals who work with adults. It suggests ways to construct change through professional development and provides suggestions for successful presentations. The book is based on sound research-based theory.
Consumed is designed as a wake-up call, however Barber will be hard-pressed to get the attention of our consumption-laden populace, who wishes only to be entertained and not educated. This book is not entertaining in the least, but it does provide a solid historical view of the stages of capitalism in this country and the perils of our current consumerist mindset. Barber uses the phrase infantilist ethos to describe our psychological state, which has been established by robust and omnipresent marketing and advertising. This is not a book meant to make you feel better about our situation as a supposed democratic nation. Barber gives his readers the choice between more iPods or social change. He believes our civic duty is to unplug the headphones and become more worldy. Yet,unfortunately, most prefer private life to public duty. We prefer to pin yellow ribbons on our cars and say we support the troops as we drive our SUVs to the mall. No we cannot shop our way to heal our economic situation. As Barber rightly says, we have to become more disciplined and careful not carefree.
