I enjoyed this. Greitens has a very interesting backstory and he's doing some good work now.

I will forever associate this book with Colleen English. She and I worked so hard not to read this (or anything else) at the University of Paris. I am forever in her debt for (endlessly) procrastinating with me.

This book was a real eye-opener and well written but very depressing I thought. I won't give anything away in here, but I just want to say that it doesn't make you think the world is a very good place (which it isn't). I usually like books that make me feel better about the world! I can handle sad and I LOVE books that make me cry but this was too sad for me.

interesting...
I found the incredibly underdeveloped character of Dora to be quite a distraction in this book. Davy, her mischievous twin was delightful in his badness, but she was a blank slate. Other than that, Anne's navigation through early adulthood (although that started sooner then as she is 17-18 in this book) was enjoyable. Some of the "teacher" chapters were particularly amusing.

Baby Dance invites the reader to join in the rhythmic exchange between an African-American father and daughter as he tries to soothe the child so her crying won’t wake mommy. Their boisterousness and excitement increases as they dance and wake up mommy nonetheless. The story is short in length and perfect for babies and toddlers. The book presents song and rhyme schemes that make the storyline easily accessible to its intended audience. The illustrations mirror the movement and excitement of the baby and her father as they are singing and dancing. The backgrounds brighten as the child and father’s playful movements intensify.

I really wanted to like this book and I did think the first two stories were pretty good (the second wasn't so much a story but a mock history (which sounds dreadful (but was terribly funny (and that is no small feat)))) but the last two annoyed me so much I just couldn't get through appendix (yes there is an appendix (what do you expect from a book with a mock history? (more mock histories (which are less funny the second time around))). I could tell the writer had created a potentially amazing world chock a block full of fascinating characters and histories, I just don't think he did anything with it.

This book hit so close to home. Lisa Genova really captured the life of the dual working family well from the combined stress and joy of meeting your work demands to trying and be there for your children's events and the secret bliss of driving in to work without children every now and then. I couldn't relate to this families particular financial position, but I certainly understand basing life on two incomes and how quickly everything could change. I thought the author did well in the process that Sarah went through from wanting her old life back to creating a modified version of her life with her new capabilities and how her husband followed along in his own time.
