Still my favorite math text ever. I've stop consulting this book only because I know all the material at this point. Boas has a talent for explaining math simply that I've rarely found anywhere else. If you're an undergrad learning physics or calculus for the first time, use this text instead of whatever they've assigned you.

I actually went back to the library the day after I finished this book, and checked out a book of essays about the book because it fascinated and bothered me so much. In the end however, it's simply an amazing trip to the edge of human morals where the soul isn't just dark, but blank. (also I really want to be able to read this in the French!!)

Well-crafted. Reminded me of Beginner's Greek - has the same appeal. A satire peopled with characters so endearingly, heartbreakingly fallible you fall in love with them even while cringing at their behavior. So much of the relationships within this world is defined by what gets said and doesn't get said, by whom, and to whom, and about whom. She has a good range of voices; Carly's transformation throughout the book is subtle; her move from malapropistic naivety to (by the first-person epilogue) insightful maturity was well-played. The thread of Gatsby allusions led me to realize that this is basically an homage to and an inversion of that story, in many intriguing ways. Also, it was funny. A well-designed cover but an incongruous title, I think - a little too chick-litty for the contents.

hilarious book with lots of promise that leaves you depressed and frazzled at the end. as kevin smith said of something completely unrelated "it's like getting a blowjob where the chick pulls it out and jerks you off to a conclusion all over your belly...where you're like 'this is phenomenal this is awesome OH NO, WAIT, OH OWWW, awwww.'"
