If you love quilts or quilting, this is the series to read. Not great writing but a good story with lots of Hawaiian history. Made me want to hop on a plane.

This is a book of the rites for catechumens, baptized but not Catholic children and adults. There is background info about the rite but is very minimal. It's more of a how-to book.

Her nonsensical rantings are surprisingly easy to read, which probably speaks to the literacy of her audience. Lies, contempt, nastiness, and a complete disregard for anything resembling humanity. Even Joe McCarthy would have been uncomfortable around this creature.

** spoiler alert ** Now, it might be that I'm a little crazy for rereading the entire series, but I have to tell you, it's a heap of fun knowing everything that's occurring. Also, it's likely that I'll give five stars to all the books. I'm okay with that. First off, I don't see how Peter is a former Gryffindor. (Read: Erin, explain this to me as only you can.) It's a minor thing, but it's bothering the crap out of me. There are many things I appreciated about this book. For one, I do like that Ron and Harry have a falling out. Harry's gotten recognition for quite a few years, and as Hermione points out, Ron is rather accustomed to being overshadowed by his huge family, but it's quite another for it to happen with his best friend as well. It's a silly sort of fight that really adds to the story. I never quite remembered just how horrible Bartimus Crouch was. I suppose the film overrode my memory of the book. The fact that Crouch allowed the switch between his wife and son and then imprisoned his son in their house is just over the top. Yes, Barty Crouch did terrible things, but I don't see how his father was doing any better by continually taking over his son's mind. I was also fascinated with the Death Eaters. As Rowling keeps telling us, the Death Eaters are mostly made up of Slytherins. (I'm not going to get into that issue.) If Voldemort wanted loyal followers, he was looking in the wrong house. Most Slytherin Death Eaters did what seems natural to Slytherin: do whatever it takes to reach your end game. As disciples sometimes do, they scattered after the disappearance of their master. Sure, Voldemort assured them that he'd set up safeties in the form of Horcruxes to keep himself alive, but I can understand their instant terror at his disappearance. What if he was wrong? They were still members of the community, from old wizarding families that enjoyed a certain amount of respect and nobility, and the prospect of hiding out or Azkaban probably seemed none too warm. So they lied. Who stayed in Azkaban? Among others, that would be crazy Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch, who begged his father not to send him away, and pleaded that he'd done nothing wrong. So I don't really think he can go around calling other people cowards. And of course Voldemort gets upset that his followers have betrayed him. He should have gone for Hufflepuffs. I like the complexity of the political system. I neglected to remember that Cornelius Fudge considered blood purity to be an important thing, and he keeps it hidden until the very end, when you just want to give him a bit of a smack. You know that big things are about to happen, and I love that it's a great lead-in to the next book.

This was one of my favorite audio books. Narrator Nicki Van Gieson brings a lot of warmth to the reading. The book is about a young woman who goes to work for a "National Enquirer"-like tabloid and finds a body next to the road on her way to her first day of work. The book humorously follows her life at the paper and her work on the side to solve the mystery of the body.

If I Stay is a powerful story about a girl named Mia who experiences the many hours between her family’s car accident and her hospital ICU stay in an in between life and death state. She has to make a decision –whether to stay or go on –after realizing that her family is dead and gone. If I Stay is 200 pages of heart-wrenching emotion. I was pulled into the story right from the beginning and with each page and with each story Mia had to tell I was pulled deeper into her world. I was emotionally engaged and by the end of the book drained completely. I must admit that I read the book in a bookstore and was crying in said bookstore. I didn’t care who would see me because putting the book down to go home and cry in private was not an option. The Characters and relationships are so real. And what I mean by that is that there's real conflict and struggle. Mia and Adam are so different with their different styles and music tastes and friend groups yet it is worked at. No relationship is the peachy Edward/ Bella romance (SORRY!). Forman does well to show how difficult having such a contrasting romance can be and with a family that is so much different from you. On top of that Forman shows a heartwarming eclectic and rich family that is fun, energetic and passionate about life. And that is where Mia’s struggle stems from: how can she go on living life, loving life if her loved ones, those that truly loved living are gone. The story is a powerful tale of life and death and the true meaning of friends, family and truly living. Mia is stuck in the in between and she reminisces on her life, her music and her love. In a family where music is a major part of who they are and their personality, Mia’s life is intertwined with the notes and melodies of her past. The differences between her music and her families or even her boyfriend Adam’s is a testament to how truly diverse life is and how the smallest fragment, music, can be a powerful driving force. Music and Mia’s memories are one and the same. Gayle Forman seamlessly intertwines the present and past and at time when I wondered “where’s this bit going…?” she delivers on highly emotional level tugging at my heart strings. The whole story is emotionally charged and you will be constantly sighing and heaving with tears. If I Stay is a true testament to the power a single person can hold and what a lifetime of love and memories can offer. Don’t take one second for granted and keep moving. Always keep moving. I give this book a 92/100 A- Characters- 19 Plot- 17 Writing- 19 Originality- 17 Re-Readability- 20

Good book about the relationship between a mother and daughter. When the mother finds out about the daughter having an inappropriate relationship with her math teacher, it causes her to reevaluate who her daughter is, as well as think about her own sexuality and the sacrifices she's made over the years. The characters are believable and the story moves along quickly.
