Really good analysis of Kara Walker's art and career which puts the various objections to her work in context. I disagree with some of the theoretical lenses applied to her work but all in all very comprehensive and approachable.

How does one review Infinite Jest? For books like this, ratings seem beside the point. You may love the book, or you may hate it, but you can't ignore it. It's as massive and compelling a literary position paper about the state of the American Republic circa 1996 as can be found (at least among Wallace's contemporaries). It's also written in as characteristic a style as any writer has been able to develop in the R&D lab of his post-Postmodernist soul. For Wallace, it seems, America is a very unhappy place, sad in its soul, miserable and mediated, wracked not so much with the geopolitical doubts and political anxieties of his Postmodernist forefathers as torn apart over seemingly more mundane but equally insufferable sufferings: dysfunctional families, rampant addiction, intellectual infantalization, life without hope or purpose. If this all seems very much like a "pre-9/11" book, well, it is: but the conditions of sadness and suffering that Wallace has so compellingly in these thousand-plus super-footnoted pages outlined have not disappeared; if anything, they are, for many, deeper than ever.
I just can't recommend this highly enough. I hate to sound like a stereotypical liberal-hippie-multi-culti-Said-lover, but I couldn't put this book down. I like the interview format much more than the essay--you feel like you're engaged in a relaxed conversation with him, and his scholarly depth and breadth are astonishing. The guy knows how to communicate, and I refer back to this book a lot in critiquing all sorts of stuff.

A much better read then Eragon...is that because I was used to the style at this point, or because I was sucked into the story, or because it was better written? Hard to say, but I enjoyed it more.

Great personal rather than portentous depiction of the early days of World War II--when you're in the middle of things, how do you know if it's historic, if it'll get better or worse? The book jacket overstates the thriller and spying parts of the story; fans of Foyle's War on TV would enjoy the pace and tone.

The book is written as a series of journal entries written in the middle ages by a fourteen year old girl named catherine whose father is determined to marry her off to any rich nobleman he can find. This is a very comical book full of wit and trickery. All in all I found this book to be highly entertaining.

One of the few best novels. It is better than his other novel, altough the later was great! The following part is from one of my replies. I'll take it as my review. Yes I did like it as a "story". One Day I kept on telling myself that I'm going to stop with next paragraph but I couldn't. It was a very moving and very sad story as you said but cannot agree on the history or relegious part of it because I'm not that sure about-I think it might be true-. What I'm very sure about is the authour somehow seems to be mixing about some parts of Islam and is not writing the big nor the true picture. For I may defferentiate what is right and what is wrong but some may not especially if they only know Islam through the media. Or the fiction. Most think that Islam or christianiy is only to go to mosque or church at certain days but they are not. They are a system of life, an identitiy. I did not like the part of the stoning or "Murder" as Hosseiny called it because he did not talk nor clarify why they were doing it. If Taliban were real Muslims they should have known that they can't punish but under very peciular rules and indications an that it is the last step of the punishment i.e. The stoning. As for the ethnic cleansing which is never ever was a thing mentioned in Islam with all its varites. And they way they brought regulations from there mind and said it is Islam an told everybody to obey or to be killed! What a way! It is good to live and try to reach to people but without melting or forgetting who we are or turning off our belevies to satisfy others is that right? I know that discussion of religion is not allowed in certain groups and this is good for you don't who is talking about which but the above reply or review is only for clarifying and as Hosseiny said it is crime to steel the right of truth from somebody.
I always thought I'd write something like this. You can find influences of Tolkien to RA Salvatore in this book, and while he writes well initially, the book seems to lack that sense of depth that a fantasy world requires to be truly great. A fun read before the movie, it does explain a bit more, but not something I'd do more than casually read.
