This book wasn't at all what I thought it was. All these years, I thought it would be this trippy, completely balmy story, that people read while they were stoned. Turns out, it's just an average book, with a little bit of nonsense thrown in. I really enjoyed the Jabberwocky poem. The rest of the book was just an average children's story. In fact, it was rather a push to get through, which is unusual to me. No matter - it's still a rather referenced piece of literature. The fact, though, that Wikipedia had this to say about it, made me laugh out loud, literally: "The poem is sometimes used in primary schools to teach students about the use of portmanteau and nonsense words in poetry, as well as use of nouns and verbs." Haha, not in primary schools in the States!

I love Katie. However the way this book just jumps into "The Work" was unsetteling since I was unfamiliar w/her when I began. I do think once you "get" what it is that she is doing- she has the power to heal everyone. Her basic teaching of "The Work" can easily be incorporated into our daily lives and help us carry less resentment, hurt and anger.

I have a soft spot for books on writing. There's something about reading how others describe the craft of writing that I find really appealing. Thankfully, after investing time and money into The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction I came away feeling that I learned something new and fresh. The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction is a no-nonsense guide to writing in these two respective genres. Athans quickly gets to the point, and stays on point throughout the entire book. The one criticism I have is that I found, after finishing the book, is that I wanted more: more examples, more little exercises, more stuff. My favourite sections were those on plot and character development. I made notes, and I now have a “master file” spreadsheet that I put together using information that I picked up from The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction. Using a spreadsheet is a great idea to keep track of notes and organize thoughts, and thankfully Athans points out this obvious detail in the book. It's a simple little detail, but one that can provide immeasurable return. All in all The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction is a good little book, and a welcome addition to the growing list of science fiction/fantasy writing guides. If you're in the market for something new on the topic, or if you are interested finding the perfect starting point to delve into the subject of writing sci-fi, then pick up this book.

** spoiler alert ** I never review on here, but I felt the need to. No one I know is reading this book and I really wanted to talk about the ending, so here it goes. ***MAJOR Spoilers below!*** I love Jodi-- her writing style, impeccable research and use of immensely controversial subjects makes her my favorite author. In fact, until the main story lines resolved right at the end, I felt no differently about this novel as I have about most of her others in the past- brilliant. Then, it all crashed down for me. First, Marin's search for her birth mother ends completely predictably, making me wish the entire story line just didn't even exist in the first place. Even worse was the resolution of the general plot. I agree with those reviewers who are calling this book "My Sister's Keeper- The Sequel," as the endings are so completely similar. Even worse than Willow's "unexpected" (I predicted something similar) death by drowning in the pond was Charlotte's forfeiting of the check she had ruined all of their lives to earn as she placed it in Willow's coffin. There are so many things wrong with this that I can't even begin to list them, namely that she didn't use it to give her OTHER daughter a better, more fulfilling life. I love Jodi, I'm still one of her biggest fans, but I didn't love this one.

A good juicy drama, in line with a modern Godfather. I couldn't put it down!

I finally finished this book, it took awhile to get through it. I was pretty disappointed with the ending.

this guide is a must when reading Ulysses for the first time.
This book as absolutely enchanting. It read like a fairy tale for adults, and yet there was very little that delved into the realm of fantasy at all. I loved the fact that the story spanned from 1900 - 2005 and was told from the point of view of so many characters. It was very intriguing to often times know things that the characters in the story were still left wondering about. I couldn't wait to turn the page and find out their reaction when they knew what I did. Every bit of this book from start to finish got an A+ for me.

Perused through it. The artwork was awesome and I really appreciated all of the backstory of Kate and Reyes but gotta tell you, I'm not really a DC girl (although I do really love Catwoman and I have a sort of crush on Wonder Woman)- didn't read Infinite Crisis and therefore couldn't really understand much of what was going on in here. This book is definitely for those that one- have a working knowledge of the DC world 2- Like DC enough to stick around and 3- have read or have a working knowledge of Infinite Crisis.
i loved this book! My favorite part was when they hid in the closet.
