At its best, this book is filled with porous theology that is modestly helpful to someone who has no knowledge of Christianity whatsoever. At its worst, Warren mangles scripture to fit his own agenda (40 days to find purpose in your life) and promotes personal experience over the truth found in scripture. This book is symptomatic of feel-good consumerized Christianity so prevalent in America today. Finding your purpose in life takes far longer than 40 days and it cannot be easily summarized (besides the obvious - to love and worship God). "The Purpose Driven Life" offers nothing new and while not quite heretical, it is very unsound and I cannot recommend this book to anyone. The fact that Warren makes references to the other "Purpose Driven"-branded items in his book that one can purchase pretty much sums it up. I was given a free copy of this book by a friend at my church a few years ago. I finished reading the book simply to say that I had read it in its entirety. I dont think Gilly Smith did the best job here. I found that often the story of Nigella's life went off on other tangents, stories of her friends and ex boyfriends, which I found myself skimming over, which I feel are really only there to pad the book out. If you took those parts out and kept in the parts about Nigella herself, the book would only he half the size.

This is a fun little read in which the author and his buddy, Katz, hike portions of the Appalachian Trail. They provide a humorous, honest eyewitness account of life on the AT; we meet helpful hikers and small-town residents, rude campers, a man named Chicken John who was forever hiking in the wrong direction (he reminded me of myself...), a disgruntled redneck hunting down Katz after a mildly adulterous incident at a laundromat. Bryson also visits a few odd places related to the AT via automobile. The middle of the book, when they quit the trail for a few months, really lost some steam, but on the other hand that made the last few chapters, when they return to the AT to hike the last 100 northern miles in Maine (a place near and dear to my heart!) all that much better. This book won't disappoint.

I loved this book. It was a great read told from a dog's point of view. As a new dog owner it really hit home for me and made me look at the bond between a dog and man differently.

i really like how they start to tie in threads from the spotlight series. but overall the plot in this one isn't terribly captivating and gets more convoluted as it progresses. as always (with these IDW releases) nice artwork tho.
