I think if Mike Carey's run on Hellblazer had been a bit shorter, he would be remembered a bit more fondly as having a great handle on the character of Constantine. I think a lot of people feel his run went on a bit long and went off the rails by the end, but I love it. And this standalone GN, released separately from Carey's actual run on the book, is a perfect example of his take on the character, which I think is spot-on. And Manco's art is at its best here as well.

Some people have all the talent, but Steve Martin's clout as an actor certainly helped him open some publishing doors. Read the book over watch the movie.

A talking tree tells the story of this African American botanist. The tree gives more attention to George's schooling in the segregated South than to his accomplishments. The Wilson-Max illustrations are simple and suited for the very young. PS-2.

I loved reading this and discussing her ideas with Matt as I was reading them. The idea that tolerance can have negative effects is interesting, especially when it leads to allowing things we all agree are wrong to occur in our midst (like murder). The part of the book where Ayaan discusses the Dutch people's refusal to see that 'honor killings' and female circumcisions were taking place in their country simply because they wanted to be tolerant of a different cultural/religious view was a real eye-opener for me. I don't know enough about Islam to know how violent or non-violent it inherently is, in its purest form, but I do know that it's ridiculous to allow murder in the name of freedom. All in all, this was a very engaging and thought-provoking read. Themes: Islam, Africa and the Middle East, women, tolerance, violence, history, political upheaval, family, tribe/clan identity

This wasGreat book overall. Really humanized class struggles in ireland to me. Very interesting subject matter and the first-person narration was a nice change of pace.

I read something like this on a poker blog [http://hammerplayer.blogspot.com/] recently and I agree: If you haven't read this book I am a better multi-table tournament player than you are. It's that simple.

What if you could just wish for something, then pull it out of a box? Rebecca's parents are separating and it's hard on her. Her mother gave her no choice but to move to her grandmother's house. There, Rebecca finds a magic breadbox that objects appear in when you wish for them. Rebecca wishes for a lot of things, iPods to candy, and it's fun. But what Rebecca really wants-to be home-is bigger than a breadbox. Laurell Snyder's BIGGER THAN A BREADBOX was a great read. It had a unique plot and a cool genre: magical realism. The realism part could happen in any kid's life (and does), divorcing parents, moving, and changing schools. The magic keeps the book super interesting right up to the exciting ending. AWESOME BOOK! (Note: I read this as an advance reader copy. It comes out in September.)
Book on tape. I was captivated from start to finish. Another winner by Ken Follett!
