3.5 stars. Could have been better. I had high hopes for this book. Was let down. What is the back story with Mom and Luis' dad? Why wasn't that explained? And what was the purpose of the epilogue?

Very well written horror NOVEL :D I couldnt guess the ending, so a plus point to that fact. Judes, Marybeths and Annas characters along with Craddocks were also complete, really ''alive''. I was way better than I was expecting, plus better than my first book from Stephen King, which really suprised me. Now, I don't doupt this novels place on the first horror stories list on this site C:

Mediocre at best. Writing at times clunky, dialogue flat-out bad at times. Left you wondering "Who would say that to someone?" It was best when the characters weren't speaking. Also, and this might be just me and my OCD, but the names of the characters just didn't fit on some and it really got to me. Characters whiny and unlikeable for the most part. I ended up really rooting for the one character in the book I think we were supposed to hate. Ending wrapped up in a big red bow. I think I finished this out of pure stubborness. Oh, and speaking of OCD - It was interesting to read a book that mentioned areas I was familiar with in the Cincinnati area. Bothered me when she described the traffic as usually congested by the airport. It is not. Ever. Killed some credibility for me.

This is an exciting journey to the center of the earth. I was trilled of the adventures met by Prof. Hardwigg and his nephew Harry.I saw the movie and compared the story in the book. There was a slight twist in the story but i liked the one written in the book.

After the long wait, it was sooo worth it. As the truth unfolds, so do more questions...and lies & betrayal. The factions are falling apart but allies are gained in unexpected places. I love Four but not as much as I did in Divergent. That's OK though, because Tris stole the show. It left on another cliff hanger but I'm content until the next book. Congrats to all the author's success.

Lots of great information about the Chicago exposition, its architects, the process of building it, and associated facts. However, I think that Larson got lost in the details, and in the desire to record every single piece of information he misplaced the narrative thread of the story. By the end I was just wishing it would be over. Also, not such a fan of the dramatized murder scenes. Kind of unnecessary. If they had been part of a confession, sure, makes sense, but otherwise I'd have left them out and stuck to facts.
