"This novella is beautifully written; you will feel like you are right there experiencing the end of the Roman Empire." See more of Lexi's tasty review on NRR's website http://www.nocturnereads.com/The-Cent...

Awesome book. It just felt a little weird to assume that's how the pre-existence really was, but once I just read it as fiction, it was a lot of fun.

The story about the lives of a group of characters who work for an independent English speaking newspaper based in Rome. As a reader, you make stops in Paris, Egypt, Rome and Atlanta. A quirky, entertaining book.

Gread book.
I decided to read Dreams From My Father because I was interested in learning more about our new president. I learned that Barack Obama is a very good writer who had an interesting past. I really liked the style that Obama used to describe expiriences he had. Many of the images and details he used made me want to go where he had been and see the things he saw. One specific scene that sticks out to me is when he describes the African safari he went on when he was visiting his family in Kenya. He made the desert sound beautiful and made me wish I had the some of the opportunities he has had to travel. I think the expiriences he had as a child have helped shape him into the leader he is today. He faced a lot of adversity in his family situation which has helped him develop the leadership qualities necessary to become a good president. Barack Obama's story is truly inspirational and I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn more about our president while reading a great book.

Loved the gonzo style immersion journalism into the holy world of soccer hooliganism. Really well written and funny. What Hunter S. Thompson did for 1960s motorcycle gangs, Bill Buford here does for 1980s English soccer fan culture and it's well worth reading if that interests you as it did me. A New Yorker writer, Buford is the straight man to the crazy brutal violent world around him and he tells how he got sucked in only to emerge lucky to keep his life. Lots of wonderful story telling around the many matches he attended and fans he tries to understand and sociology he theorizes about throughout. I got to know and experience this world, firsthand, through Buford's words and suggest you do the same.

O'Nan is extraordinary at depicting the ordinary. I didn't like this as much as Last Night at the Lobster, but still found it interesting. Tedious at times, though saying that makes me feel like a bad person because it's all about a family's reaction to a daughter gone missing. O'Nan perfectly captures the enduring hope, resignation, and emotion. I found I liked the sections from Lyndsay's point of view most. Not necessarily something I'd recommend, but worthy of a listen.

This actually would be handy to have around during market season. In Ohio that doesn't last all year so this book actually irritated me since I couldn't get my hands on most ingredients to make any of these drooly-looking recipes. I did however make an herbal tea and I have an herbal sugar sitting in wait, so thank you Deborah Madison. I'll have to check you out again soon.
