This was not my favorite of Jane Austen's. It took me a little to get into the book, but I did end up enjoying the story. It's much like all her others, a lot of misunderstandings, a budding romance, and a happy ending.

this is an incredible book, a translation of the major sanskrit treatise on elephants. full of odd, unverifiable insights and glimpses of the world of ancient elephant training. elephant personalities, anatomy, habits, the various kinds of elephants, the usefulness of elephants - and a key to elephant terminology in sanskrit. (edgerton notes a number of cases where ignorance of those terms led to mistakes in translation in other scholars.)

The celebrity children's book should always be approached with caution... This book attempts to get that active toddler asleep by sequentially saying good night to body parts. The idea is certainly not new, and I'm almost certain there are other books that use the idea. The text in this book is acceptable - not exceptional, not terrible. The use of an orangutan by Emma Quay provides a point of interest. The quote from the "grateful parent" on the back about how this book solved all their bedtime battles is a bit over the top!

too old-school for me. Where the heck are the female characters, I ask you?

This book is incredibly well writen and gives the reader stunning visuals as well as personality depths. It takes you on the dark wild ride of Miss Lily Bart through her jaunts in 1900's New York society. There are some terribly unlikable charachters that really add to the overall feel of the book. It was a good read and I enjoyed the dialog, but, the ending was rather shocking. Given that Miss Bart was sort of an early answer to our modern day starlets, then perhaps the ending was just. Still, I felt as though the author based Miss Bart on somebody in her own life that she didn't like as things seemed simply too unfortunate and really made her out to be the fool.

From back cover..."Three...two...one...BLAST OFF! The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie off to the moon-and the future. Their mission? To find the last "M" thing that will free Morgan from the spell. Can they do it before the air in their oxygen tanks runs out? Will the mysterious moon man help them? And why is Peanut the mouse acting so strange?" Another great installment in the Magic Tree House series. This is one of my children's favorites to read! It is great for girls and boys, and you always learn something besides just enjoying a good read. This book was no exception and we loved learning about some of the things on the moon. For instance, did you know that it takes fourteen Earth days to equal one day on the moon? And that footprints will never wear away naturally? My children were fascinated by these little nuggets of information! Great book and we thought it was fun to have Jack and Annie travel to the future in this installment!
